old prints of Birmingham

We have those same pair of B,ham market prints on our wall, got them from a table at Bromsgrove market quite a while ago

At the risk of sounding too technical on this fine Saturday morning, I must be one of the few people that like the Sefridges building.
I think one of the problems is that we see in colour, compare these two photos black and white-where's Selfidges, Selfridges toned down doesn't look so bad.

John
To be honest i quite like Selfridges, and prefer it NOT toned down.It does intrude I agree, but probably not half as much as most football grounds do on the landscape. However you have football fans who support their club right or wrong and who think everything to do with their club is wonderful, and so their grounds are not criticised. Also most have been intruding for a long time. Maybe people will get to love Selfridges

I think Selfridges is a wonderful iconic building. I'm disappointed with the Rotunda now. all you see is drawn blinds open blinds. washing and personal paraphernalia stuck in the windows. It should have had tinted windows to give it a more uniform look.

I know I don't live there any more...and critique is frowned upon...anyway, to me the whole thing looks like a cruise ship breaking up on the rocks. It's not that there is not merrit individually in my opinion...it just does not come together for me.

Perhaps if they switched positions of the Town Hall and St. Martins. The lower square Perthenon would add contrast to the rounded...whatever and St Martins would be restored to a position of pride...with a few trees around it again by the art gallery and clock tower.

The town hall would bring back the old market hall feel to the Bull Ring.

Morning Cynth and Happy New Year. Were your pictures a Christmas present they sound wonderful. I love John's prints.
Happy New Year Wendy. No, they were given to me some time ago....I think it was the 278th hint that did it!!!

Charlie you are a lucky girl I love those old paintings.

It's strange really I prefer the area around St Martins and Selfridge's from ground level I love walking round the area. St Martin's church seems more approachable as you can walk in and look around. I suppose it's different strokes for different folk's. It doesn't look great from above though..just my opinion
