What a find John. My mom picked up a cameo broach at a jumble sale for two shillings years ago. I have it now and wouldn't part with it for anything. Mind you I have bought a pair of matching earings. Jean.

John what a wonderful find I am so jealouse! I am happy they are in a good home though!

I too had some luck at a boot sale today a lovely book on Birmingham 'The Dictonary of A Great City. Another on Sutton Park one on fashion 1800-1900 and some old Magazines about Queen Victoria with the most amazing photo's all for three quid!

the library said I can take them up on Wednesday for the curator to have a look at them may be if I make it I can have a peep at collection they hold of above artist

How exciting John, I bet they will have some more in a catalogue. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for that those John. I think the prints are better than photos because you can go back further with them.

Dear John, This is Walsallie and I haven't quite got the hang of this site yet. However, you were kind enough to identify my mum and dad's sweet shop opposite Aston Parish Church and I replied to say how grateful I was. Well, I was wondering if you had the actual post card for sale or if you could tell me where to obtain the photograph as printing on the computer doesn't come out very well. I am also looking for post cards or photos of Walsall Road, Perry Barr, by the Tennis Courts pub which is where I moved from when I left Brum. Also any photos/postcards of Park Avenue off Soho Road in Handsworth. I look at boot fairs but obviously you are in a better position in B'ham to obtain such things maybe ? Thanks

WALLSALLIE, I have quite a few old images of soho rd and handsworth if your interested havent found any of park lane off soho rd yet still looking.

Nice one John, the only things we seem to get down here are Oxfordshire related. Fine for my wife but not so much for me. Also we DON'T need baby clothes and toys!

Did anyone else save these? They were free with the Sunday Mercury a few years ago.

A friend of mine has a set of four of the old Birmingham prints on his wall.

When i asked him where he got them, he told me he thought they were
from the Museum and Art Gallery.

Having spoken to a person in the Museum shop about them, they looked
at me as though i was talking a foreign language.

If they had prints of old Birmingham in the shop i believe they would sell
a good many and raise some much needed revenue.

I can only assume there must be some sort of copyright issue with them.

regards Neville..

I don't think these will have any value because they were free with Sunday Mercury. I have no idea how many he did but the are copies of the works of a local artist named Ron Smith, nickname SMUDGE.

Thanks for the link Bordesley. Does anyone know why the reference to "The Beehive" in the title of the painting? As it's Gt Charles Street presumably it's not the shop that used to be on Albert St?

I've been given two James Billingsley prints, John.Framed under glass and very similar to yours, but one's of Digbeth with St Martins in the background, the other's of Birmingham Town Hall. The Town Hall one (I think!) is in the "Birmingham Seen" exhibition at the Gas Hall.

Morning Cynth and Happy New Year. Were your pictures a Christmas present they sound wonderful. I love John's prints.
