OLD BIRMINGHAM PHOTOS FROM STEVEBHx

This is Alan Pond House on the Soho Road from 1975, note the various prices and also the garage on the left with the Duckhams sign.

I am interested to know where this was on the Soho Road
And what is the name of the Cul-de-sac in the bottom left hand corner? Anyone make it out?

Think I found it, Oakland road (just to left out of pic)near 372 Soho Road (thanks to Fairwood Panels in SteveBhx photo)

It's opposite Booth Street & the Regal Picture House (Now LIDL)

This is 459 Green Lane something a bit different - builder yard in the middle of the residential street. Now as we are on two street here I assume that one of them isn't Green Lane or the property is on Green Lane and the two roads are not ?
Anyway nice Morris Minor Van and a Triumph Spitfire.
If you wonder where you get chimney pots from these were your people.

Fabulous set of pics.

We have been here before but the other side of the building , this is Green Lane - don't think its the same one - nice selection of metal signs and a nice wall painted sign.
Not sure what the graffiti relates to " TO POLICE LONG LIVE CHAIRMAN"

The side road is Mansel Road. I think that possibly the builders yard was on both sides of Mansel Road as both are yards today. The property in the first photo is 459 Green Lane. I also think the second and third shots are just different views of the same bit of Mansel Road on the side opposite 459. (Same van in same place in both views). Any one know any different?

Posting at the same time as you - at least we agreed and yes. I had to use Fairwood as well to identify the position

The hole that was / is the Norfolk Hotel Hagley Road in 1972 coner of St Augustines Road - Commer lorry nose of a Morris . Funny to see the walls and fireplaces left behind

Hole now filled by new building. Slightly different angle as couldn't resist the view of the church down St Augustine's Road

48 Dartmouth Street in 1980 - only included as it shows the finest of British motoring - Yes I know there is an Alfa on the pavement!

Tricky as the trees have all grown and the building's have changed. I assume as I can see chevrons for an island it is approaching the island near Matalan but am happy to be corrected. Knew it wasn't the original Dartmouth Street because my husband was born at 1 back of 50 there. :D

Yes, you are right Janice. One of the roads we use when travelling in and out of Brum. Haven’t used it for over twelve months for obvious reasons. I know I am going to see a lot of changes in the city centre. Good to hear your husband was born in my area Janice. Sue

Still cant work out why one side of the card is too big, yet the same fits when you turn it over, one more into the breach dear friends, Bernard The Lickey Incline Terence Cuneo The steep Lickly Incline at Bromgrove
just south of Birmingham presented a great problem to the Midland Railway. For many years specially designed locos were built to assist trains up the incline, the most famous of which was the largest loco built
by the Midland Railways, a massive O-IO-O known as "Big Bertha. "Jubilee" 4-6-0 is shown storming up the incline with a passenger train.
A REMINDER THAT THESE PICTURES ARE SHOWN BY KIND PERMISSION OF DERBYS BS + M.R TRUST

15 Rookery Road Handsworth in 1975, a fine shop, corona rubbish bin, Walls Ice cream A frame, and a good window display for window shopping.
On the right hand side of the top shelf left hand window is that an orange wembley football?

just how i remember the old shop windows..think i can see a post office set in the left window...i loved those and would play for hours with them

Finally one of the colour ones for you , this is the Bell Tavern - few things to look out for, lorry on the right with Milk Churns, the ornate lamp to the right of that lorry and the Police telephone box. Note the old black and white traffic lights.
Again no year and the location was only because it says so on the building - better description please
thanks
EDIT See post #1,800 for location and map - thanks MikeJee
