OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

I think it offers the opportunity to attract business from two streets. Where there is not a pub, there is usually/often a corner shop for the same reason
Location is important. Consider how many corner shops are known, not by their actual name, but as "the corner shop". I have never heard anyone refer to a "middle of the block shop". : )

The next up I have no idea of - it is not mentioned on the type written sheet - mind that says there are 30+ images and I have 10!!, I have two versions this is the uncropped version and posted as it has a date on the top corner, It may be known to someone - tram in the background and a Virol enamel sign. There is also a bridge with ironwork which may offer a clue to a location.

I believe the tram is on Hill Street and that's part of New Street Station roof in the background...This bomb damaged building would have been one of these I've indicated on this pre war aerial picture...

I agree, the tram is on Hill Street, the tram shelter can be seen on this aerial view so I suspect the building is the one with the red circle or the building to the right of it. On the 1950s map the building circled is marked as ruin.

Next on the New Year wander is the Crown PH on Broad Street, nice pub and spent a few evening there .

and finally on the New Year walk we end up at the Remembrance Garden off Bath Row / Holloway Head and the Colonnade which ironically originally came from the first view !. Now forming part of the Peace Garden which was better than the outdoor convenience and drop out centre it had become on Broad Street.

Well that's and eye opener for me I had no idea it had been moved from Broad St , I knew the Peace Garden well .

Tonights selection is from Sheet 9, and are all from 1989. All rather dark bit hopefully you feel the are worthwhile.
First a stroll down Blews Street.
First is The Globe, Manchester Street and Blews Street, following on from recent conversations note the door is on the corner !

Technically, I thought there was actually only 1 because all the others had their opening doors on corners of other streets?
hi carolina my understanding was that it was to do with the postal addresses and what door the letter box was on..ie if the pub was on the corner of summer lane and brearley st and the pubs door with the letter box was in brearley st then the address would be brearley st..its only what i was told so cant be certain
