OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

Finally tonight we have the Green Man Summer Lane taken in 1965, large painted front building with two arched windows on the side but on the front only the first floor windows are arched. Any offers on Joe Wheele(r) shop on the right. Nice van on the road and interesting view in the background.
Edited to add a better version of the picture

With how plain the shop front appears to be I'd guess betting office.

The next picture is The Sun, Bristol Road taken in January 1965, I recognise this picture but not sure if that is because I have looked over them so often !. ( do let me know if its a repeat). The tent over the hole in the ground is one of those things you dont see these days - usually red and white, GPO van by the side . Arched windows on the ground floor mirrored on the first . There is also a keep left bollard too.
I don't seem to have this one. the one i ha ehas buildings down to the right of the pub.Tthis is later. So do not think it has been on here before

The next picture is taken on trust that is is 109 Hockley Street, Hockley, as there is nothing to show, although the road sign does show Stuart Street which I assume is the other corner ? Corner property with two bay windows upstairs and two pediments either side of the doors and pub windows. Tiny little property to the right of the pub with a few signs next to that although we cannot see the shop.

Yes they were described as a commision agent in the 1964 Kellus. But both have disappeared by the time of the 1965 edition, so this picture must have been taken shortly before demolition

Can anyone enlighten me as to what part of Summer Lane this pub was situated ?

Last four pictures on the roll, first up we have The Guildford Arms corner of Farm Street and Hospital Street taken in February 1965, an Atkinsons Brewery pub, it is interesting for the number of blocked or false windows, often reported as been due to window tax, a " tax on daylight" which led to windows been removed as seen however due to the abolition of the tax during the winter of 1850–51, do we have any idea if these windows were due to the tax or just an interesting architectural devise. I must say also how amazing the brickwork is with the uniform nature of the brick especially those of the next door building which you can better see how all the joints line up with no stray lines.

Next we have a wonderful off license with Sarah Beatrice Sanders as the licencee, my details say Off licence in Sparkbrook, but we can see the road name of Moffat Street, but I am unable to locate it, over to you! I like the painted wall with the M & B sign, but also have a question, we can clearly see the " eyebrows of the windows but they also show above the shop windows, was it a house then converted to a shop or did they put them in anyway regardless. We can also just make out a Typhoo tee sign in the window.

We now have the Grape Inn on Belgrave Road, taken in March 1965, interesting roof layout with two pitched roofs which meet in the middle, a guttering which runs all the way round two large windows on the front with two smaller one under one eave, if you look you see the the other eave has a chimney behind it hence no windows,. I don't believe there is any of this location standing but grasping at straws if I am in the right location is that St Lukes in the background. ( if not, can you stop laughing long enough to confirm a location)

We now move onto Roll 31 I am afraid may be playing spot the duplicate. I recognise many of the picture however I may still post the image !!

First up we have the Porchester Arms , Clifford Street and Porchester Street, large name plaque on the corner leaded windows and interesting window surrounds reflecting the name style. Mix of house styles running down to the left a few vehicles and a lamppost and telegraph pole.

Can I apologise for the quality of this picture , this is the Church Inn Great Hampton Row, garage next door and a blurred car in front . Seems to have been some redevelopment around if looking at the change in buildings. Also changes to the style of the frontage of the frontage along the left hand side.

This picture is my first "duplicate" I have tried searching the details and found nothing so perhaps I have viewed it and not posted it?
My ever reliable (!) details say this is The Globe Camden Street and Powell Street, with Albion Street on the right hand side. No year I am afraid, full of atmosphere though and *ron's Cafe on the left. Unusual telephone pole on the right with arms in two directions.

This old building - 1905 set in stone - is in Lichfield Road, fine line of leaded on the ground floor although there is a mixed layout of windows on the first floor, couple of vehicle entrances one on the right and one under the Ansells sign . speaking of which a fine selection of neon on the right. Nice car parked on the road and on the extreme left is a sign at a garage which has a hanging " Shell" and "BP" signs
