Come across by chance, noted as a nursery rhyme.

Lizzie Borden took an axe
And gave her mother forty whacks,
And when she saw what she had done,
She gave her father forty-one.

The Alley refers to the old word for" cutting". The rhyme refers to the Manchester Ship Canal which is a 36 mile "Alley" from Ellesmere Port on the River Mersey to Trafford Park in Manchester. The rhyme was sung in the song Matchstalk men and Matchstalk cats and dogs sung by Brian and Michael WHICH somehow ?!! got to NUMBER 1?? IN THE CHARTS.
