mw0njm.

A Brummie Dude
Hi.any one living in neachells 1949-1964 remember the branch line that went down to the chemical works,it started at the top of st clements rd jnk nechells park rd,back of the mens bogs.when we were kids would climb
over the bog wall and climb down the signal pole onto the railway.and jump from one coal truck to the other. All night a little steam engine would shunt the empty out and full in.The last time i looked over the wall the bridge was bricked up and track gone.just the overgrown bed was there.Any pics any one,or any input

Nechells Chemical Works

Hi Pete,
Are you on about the chemical works at the botom of Cattells Grove next to the paper works, (Smith Stone and Knight)
The chemical works were called Brotherton & Co and I worked there from about 1958 to 1963, nice and handy as I lived just around the corner in Mount St.
The trucks that were used went from there to Duddeston and then up to Billingham co.durham. I m trying to remember the name of the firm they went to. I know I.C.I. took over Billingham to a lage extent but I don't think it was I.C.I. then.
regards

Brotherton

:grinsmile:Nope. On most of them I don't think you could read the name very well, mind you I didn't have to look at them only type the notes up to say what was in them or if they were empty.

Chemicals

It may have rotted our clothes etc but when a neighbour complained to her Dr she was told not to worry it would keep our chest clear!!!
Mind you I don't remember having so many coughs and cold as I have had recently, is that because there are more cars on the road, central heating or is it because, perish the thought, I am getting more senior.:P

nechells chemical works

Not sure, as we left in 1966 to move to Castle Vale. Do youy know when the film was made

MOFLY ....... Hi ........ The film starred Glen Ford and it was made
in 1953 , I did see the film when i was a little boy and again about
25 years ago , I was told back then that the location of the train
in the sidings was aston goods yard , another source told me that
the train was filmed in Washwood Heath sidings .
tonight I done a bit of a research and the only imformation i got was
in the Internet movie database ( imdb ) it did not say where the
location the film was made , but if you view the comments made
by the people who has seen the film , Birmingham is mentioned
several times .
ragga :)
