Hope I'm not off thread.
Went to Beachy Head today to take photos of the new RAF memorial, dedicated to bomber command.
It was placed insitu by a chinook helicopter yesterday 26-06-12, and will be officially unveiled some time in July.27-06-12 004.JPG27-06-12 002.JPG27-06-12 005.JPG27-06-12 011.JPG

Is this the memorial that was so close to the heart of the late Robin Gibb and that he fought so hard for.
I read that he wanted to live long enough to be there at the unveiling.

55,000 out of 110,000 lost, less than one in two surviving, I was fortunate enough to fly with some of the survivors in the late 40's and early 50's on an African based Lancaster squadron (82PR) and they never spoke of their war time experiences - and we never pressed them. Here are couple of them, a navigator and a flight engineer both had done many operations over Germany. I took this pic in 1950 after a photographic survey flight in Tanganyika Crew_members__Lancaster_TW905.jpg Eric

stunning photo Eric, just makes me remember what those young men ( and you for the Empire), did for this benighted country, and how they repaid them, thank god for Robin Gibb and the others who browbeat and thrashed the powers in to this magnifcent monument.

Hi Dave, its good to see the school children getting involved at the
NMA, it will be up to them to look after the place when we are on that great Parade Ground in the Sky!. Bernard

I think the one Robin Gibb was involved with is in Green Park London isnt it? It was unveiled recently by the Queen. Bernard
