Moor Street Station

Living in a part of the world where bi-directional lines are the norm, we are familiar with the exchange of tokens, I don't think that there I a physical exchange these days(not sure about that) but there is still a procedure that occurs at the stations where trains pass. Is there a similar procedure if these lines are used for bi directional travel.
Jim
On the Barnstaple to Exeter line the exchange at Credit on is still manual. At Eggesford the driver has to get out of his cab and operate the system himself. These are the only two crossover places on the line.

Yes, I used to go down to work in Exeter from Barnstaple by train and remember the drivers getting out to disappear into a "cupboard" at Eggesford which I guessed was to confirm that the next section of line was clear. I remember in steam days the drivers being handed the token and sometimes the occasional parcel by the signal man at Barnt Green enroute for Redditch.

London Midland have been using Class 172's since 2011. But from December this year, the West Midlands Franchise will be taken over by West Midlands Trains, so the existing units will go purple!

The station is also used by Chiltern Railways.

Maybe an admin e.g. Viv could delete posts not relevant to Moor Street Station?

purple! purple! purple! of all the projectile vomiting colours and they go for purple! are they all colour blind or what I suppose that they paid someone to come up with this colour

To avoid Vivienne, or anyone else having to make a decision, which may, or may not, be difficult for them, I have deleted all my posts in this thread.

As I never lived in Birmingham, but close enough and as a very inquisitive youngster who from the age of ten to fifteen had the freedom to roam the North Warwickshire countryside and its major city (Birmingham) and some other nearby towns I feel I have been able, in the past, to offer some interest to the threads here. I thank those who have replied or 'liked' them.
There are at least five and maybe more Forum Members living in the very large and diverse county of Devon so it has often been unavoidable not to make comments to each other.
However, time to step aside maybe.

hello alan..have to say i missed the posts that you have deleted on this thread...were they really so far off topic?? as you know it is virtually impossible to stay bang on topic on any thread on this forum...human nature by most of us me included this is why we allow a little lee way before we decided to delete any off topic posts...and yes you have certainly made some very interesting posts so please keep on posting:) i hope you are not thinking of leaving us:(

notice to all members...

can members who think that certain posts need deleting for whatever reason please send a private message to either postie or one of our moderators for our consideration rather than request any changes on open forum which may cause offence to other members

thank you

Actually the new livery will be gold and black. See https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/birminghams-trains-getting-new-lick-12531386
I think the person who designed this must have been a Wolves supporter. The new livery was decided long before the new franchise was awarded as the government now micro manages the railways more than they ever did in BR days so train liveries will no longer show the train operator.

will this be the end of moor st station as we know it...new plans to fit in with HS2..although i have not had time to look at this report in detail i do hope i am wrong in assuming that we will loose the original facade to double glazing..

Lyn
The view they give in your link is the side of the station, which is now just filled in arches, not the original fronntage. Not to say they may try to "improve" the frontage also

thanks mike and froth.. i was not too sure but as you say plans can and do change so i am really hoping we dont loose the frontage

The land for the extra platforms is already there. In fact platform 5 already exists, it just needs the tracks to be brought up to standard and a new platform 6 built. The extra platforms are required for the Camp Hill Line when that eventually reopens and also for the trains to Leicester and other places in the East Midlands. The problem with this is that new lines need to be built and the planning stages are very slow.

The plan was always that the HS2 station would be next to and connected with Moor Street Station. The naming of the HS2 station Curzon Street has caused considerable confusion in people's minds

One of the reason for putting the new entrance near to Park St is that on the other side of the brick wall there is a void if memory serves me correctly? there is a large wooden ? doorway in Park St that led into an open space this was at one time used for the nearby markets this is were the new entrance will go

Birmingham Moor Street Station seen during the Spring Equinox. I did think about getting a shot like Horsencart above, but too many buses etc going past!

That's the view I remember, Jim, way bay in the 50s / early 60s. Next time I visited was late 80s / early 90's and it just looked like one gigantic bombsite! But my favourite time was as a starting off point to places such as Spring Road or Earlswood Lakes when the main occupation was trainspotting in the 1940s! How far we actually went depended upon how much money we could utilise from our pocket money. :-)

According to the Evening Mail, today, there are plans to demolish Moor St Station to coincide with HS2. J.
