I'll assume you've been looking on ancestry and if you have it means nothing. Their records have been transcribed by text recognition software and is prone to mistakes. It hasn't been checked by humans.
Christina, I think the reference numbers you quote are related to medical cards (not NI numbers) I seem to remember seeing these on buff coloured medical cards in the past, perhaps this will jog someone's memory who can give you a full explanation.
You are right Sylvia, they were on those buff coloured cards that we called national insurance cards. Mine was green and our numbers were QCIH 205/1- 2-3. We had them during the war and long afterwards.
