Meddocream Ice Cream - Burbury Street

Hi to all and many thanks for allowing me to join which is much appreciated.
I have been searching now for many years for any information about Meddocream Ice Cream who used to have a factory in Burbury Street where my father worked in the late 50`s or early 60`s..my brother John and myself used to go with my father and we used to walk around and watch the Ice Cream being made and packaged.
I remember as a child walking through the arched entrance off Burbury Street and passing a boilerhouse on the right before going up to the factory itself.
I have many memories and I hope that someone will be able to help with any info...many thanks

This is presumably the firm which is listed as BMD Ice Cream Ltd in the 1956 Kellys, and as Neilsons (Ice cream & frozen foods) and as in the 1962 Kellys, at 249/251 Burbury St. Neilsons were and are a big international (Canadian) dairy group, and presumably took over the company. The factory is shown in red on the 1950s map below:

The site now seems to be waste ground

I have combined the two threads posted on the same subject and moved to factories section.
Could members please not post identical posts on different threads. This can result in information on the same subject being spread around in different places

A little about Enrico Facchini here...

That's really interesting, I had never heard of the company before and also that they became Mr Whippy!

The Bromford lane factory was originally just a biscuit factory (including what we call wafers, but also including chocolate biscuits). By the 1946 and 1947 Kellys Meddocream is listed also at Old Bromford Lane, but only as ice cream powder manufacturers. Presumably they decided to expand into other ice cream related products, but were not manufacturing the end product , which would require specialised cooling equipment. By 1955 they are at Burbury St as ice cream manufacturers.

Enrico Facchino died in 1956 founder of Facchino Ltd, the buscuit firm, and also of Meddocream Ltd.

He also had a large milk drying plant in South Wales which he sold to the Milk Marketing Board.
