marriage info

New Member
I have discovered that my great grandparents, James Shakespeare and Ellen Carter were married at St. Martin's Church on 22nd August 1858. If anyone could find any more information, i.e. their parents' names, names of witnesses, etc. I should be very grateful.

I am researching the Shakespeare family.

Hi lorraineb

Have looked on IGI and the marriage is there but parents names not listed or that of any witnesses. If you sent for the certificate you would at least have the fathers names and those of the witnesses

James Shakespeare/Ellen Carter 3rd qtr 1858 Birmingham 6d 103

I would still send for the marriage cert, then if his father is the same as above, you can be more inclined to think all this is correct

i have bought a disc from the bmsgh (if you google it you will see their website) with the records for st. martins.

does anyone rember anything about my ancestors who lived in "camden st, hingeston st, new spring st and several others.
their names were CARWITHEN, HOLLINGWORTH, BLAKE, HERBERT.
carwithens lived at 36 court 4 camden st , also christian buildings, hingeston st
and the herberts lived at 53 camden st almost on the corner of arthur st
also another name the hortons from new spring st no 99 i think
any glimmer of hope will suffice thank you ccarwithen

Ccarwithen, if you need a St Martins look up you will have to give us a few names dates etc. It takes a lot of time to search the records so if you can give as much specific info as possible it makes it much easier.:)
