Hi

From the Igi site I have found a marriage between George Cartwright & Lucy Lester 16 Oct 1820 at St Martins but no other details are given. If someone could lookup this record for me and let me have any additional info recorded I'd be hugely grateful.

George was my gggg grandfather.

Hi Karen,
I have had a look and on the records it only gives the information you already have - the date and the names. I don't think they entered more details untill later years.:)

batchelor and spinster - both of this parish - by banns - witnesses Alexander Sanders(witness at another marriage on the same page) and William Corbett
George Cartwright signed but Lucy made her mark

Thank you Mike. Any info at all is much appreciated. Interesting that one witness also a witness at another wedding, could I be very cheeky and ask for the details of that marriage? George was born in Clent which I think at that time was Staffordshire, Lucy was born in Sedgley so it's a bit of a mystery as to how they met and why they married in Birmingham.

Very much appreciated.

just to let you know that alexander sanders was some sort of church official. he is witness on loads of marriages so obviously stands in if there is no-one else to do it.

Shera, That's sort of what I suspected. Maybe they ran off to Birmingham to get married for some reason, they returned to Wombourn in Staffordshire to raise their family. Thanks for the info. You're a really helpful bunch here.
