Marle Hall - 1921 Census

Right, but would the actual census page fit somewhere in this list? Or perhaps it was just among a non institution roll of census pages? (I understand how US Census rolls work much better than England/Wales ones, so I’m just assuming they are organized the same way, though I could be wrong.)
I have looked at Birmingham General Hospital which is on the list and it is the only entry in the ED given. I am assuming that institutions in the list are the only entry in their ED which Marle Hall isn't and that is why it is not on the list.
It was only really a large house in a district of farms and other properties.

Well that’s exactly what I was wondering! Ha ha. If it was from a roll of census records just for an institution or from a roll of census records where that place (Marle Hall) was located amongst other buildings. I can’t view the 1921 Census, so I’m working with limited information. Thank you!

Just to clear something up: I’ve been on a WWI forum, and someone informed me that my great grandfather would not have had to lie about his birth year to enter the Royal Navy. “The minimum age to enter the RN on his Special Service (SS) engagement was 18. His "actual" 18th birthday would have been on 22 November 1913, 22 days before he enlisted on 15 December. So, apparently, there was no need to "lie about his age" and pretend to be 20.”

Also, he finished his service 7 Jun 1921, so he should have been “home” for the census.

i think the 1921 census was taken on june 19th..so although his service ended on the 7th maybe he had not made it home by then

If you are on Ancestry then they now have the 1921 census

He signed on after leaving the Navy in June 1921. Given that he was serving on the shore-based Victory !, perhaps he was still in Portsmouth on Census night. Just a thought.

also my thoughts viv..he had not made it back home when the census was taken..

According to the WWI buff, he only served until the beginning of Jun 1921, so I don’t know where he was.

I know. That’s how I was able to see where my great grandmother was living in Wales. One of my Sims cousins in England has a subscription and found the record for me. I can’t ask her to do a ton of research, though. She was already nice enough to ask someone in London to check the archives when the 1921 census was first released. They had no luck in finding my great grandfather. I have been on Ancestry for a long time, but I haven’t been able to afford a subscription for several years. I’ll have to go to the library and use their subscription.

Is it possible he was traveling and doesn’t appear on the census? (In the US, they’d come back around to the people who weren’t at home on the enumerator’s first visit, but with the English censuses, it seems the head of the family often filled out the forms, rather than a census bureau. For instance, my great grandfather - the same man I’ve been talking about - was absent from home the day the enumerator visited his house for the 1950 US Census, so they came back and collected the information about his household later.)

hi..i dont know if you know this but you dont have to subscribe to ancestry for a whole year (something i cant afford) so i subscribe for just a month at a time when i need to research..you would need the world wide subscription which i think is £19.99 for a months subs (in our money) then all you do before the month is up is cancel your membership so that the next month is not automatically taken out of your bank account..by doing this you still have an account with them so that you can then sub for another month when you need to..hope this helps
