astoness,
I am glad i finally got it on! s you can see my hubby came from a big family, there were 8 boys and 6 girls,I Think there was a member of them in every year,as the most of them went to Lozells/Gower St.

topsy that is a big family thats for sure...i thought getting 1 pic of the inside of the hall was marvelous but to find 2 is amazing and both of them came from private collections...the times ive ran myself ragged round that hall playing badminton..a sport i had a great passion for....this may seem strange but i cant recall ever having any class photos taken i wonder if you.maggie or lindev can..????

Wasn't Jimmy, or James Pendry was it TopsyTurvey, The father of Garry Pendry the ex B'ham City fullback. Just wondered, because he was caretaker at Kings Rise School Kingstanding, back in the 1970s? I think it was.
View attachment 60703Another shot of a family wedding taken in the 50s.Taken at the top of the playground of the Senior school by Gerrard ST.Not sure if the Caretaker at the time was Mr Pendrey?

I liked Lozells Girls School because at night or on the weekends we would climb the railings and play football on the playground. It was one of the biggest unobstruced areas around. One tough thngs however, was the delay if you booted the ball over the wall at the far end into the Lozells Junior School yard. I remember on one occassion we booted a ball over the other high wall into a backyard on Berners St and we had to go door to door until we found the house which had a strange ball in their back yard.

hi topsy..ive seen that pic before..could have been on the forum..thanks for posting it as i dont think i saved that one..

Hi Astoness,

There were in fact three Lozells St Schools, the one on the corner of Lozells St (opposite the Methodist Hall) was the Infant School (mixed). On the other side of Gerrard St was the Lozells St Girls School and at the lower end of the girl's playground was a small wall seperating the third school, Lozells St Junior School (mixed). The Junior School was at the junction of Lozells St and Clifford St. I started in the infants school cica 1945 progressing on to finish out of the Junior School in 1950 after the 11+ exam. The mixed student body then split, most of the girls going on to Lozells Girls School and the boys on to Gower St Boys School. The Lozells St Schools, which I don't know whether they exist anymore, provided me with many fond memories, one of which was playing many hours of soccer in the girl's playground on nights and weekend until the caretaker kicked us out. The girls playground, even though it sloped down to the Junior School, was preferred because of its huge size.

cracking pics topsy..i have seen the first one before but cant recall seeing the second one..i am always on the lookout for any group pic taken from about 1940 to 1945 as thats when our mom attended the school...

thanks topsy even though mom is not hear to recognise herself im pretty sure i would know her...ive posted this info before that our mom was in the same class as the daughter of the man who lost his life in the bombing of lozells road pic house...

There were actually 3 Lozells St Schools. One right on Gerrard St./Lozells St. (Infant School Mixed). One opposite that ran down the Lozells St. hill (Snr Girls School). Finally, one below the girls school on Lozells St./ Clifford St. (Junior School Mixed). Most Snr Boys later attended Gower St.
