Looking for: Descendants of Florence Jenkins

Hi there,

This is my first post here so my apologies if I'm submitting to the wrong place. My father David Weaver used to post on here quite a bit until he passed away in 2016. It's winter here in Australia and thought I'd take advantage of my hibernation and pick up where he left off on the family history search.

I'm looking for any descendants of Florence Jenkins who I believe was born in Aston/Birmingham in 1899. Florence was the daughter of my great-grandfather Albert Edward Jenkins (a saw sharpener by trade) from his first marriage (wife's name unknown) before he married my great-grandmother Emma Jane Webb in 1900/1901. Florence remained in her father's care until 1904 when she and her 5 month-old half-brother Harold were removed by the state to Aston Workhouse in Gravelly Hill (Harold died not long after). Albert Jenkins died in Kent the following year (September 1905) from a heart attack aged 29. Our family have only recently discovered this information and were hoping to find out what may have happened to Florence and whether she was able to build a good life after such tough beginnings. I've done the usual Ancestry deep dive without much luck but will be contacting Warwickshire County Public Records to see what they might have in their collection.

In the meantime I'd love to know if there are any descendants of the Jenkins family here who might be able to shed some light on the fate of Florence and other extended family.

Many thanks for reading!

Ths one Lyn? Original post suggests she was born with first wife - wonder if that is emmie as opposed to the Emma he married in 1900.

I can find banns in 1900 for a marriage with an Emma Webb but not a marriage at the moment.

Albert's first wife was an Emma Taylor, though on the baptisms of 2 sons before Florence she is listed as Emily (not unusual).

Emma was born in Staffordshire and her death appears to have been reg. Jun qtr 1900 Aston.

In 1891 Albert is listed as a Saw Maker.

i can find a florence jenkins single on the 1939 eve of war register as a patient at monyhull colony but on the transcription it gives her birth as 2nd feb 1899 as opposed to the 4th feb on the baptism record...

Well the banns I found are dated Juky 1900. The spouse is the name given by the OP.

Possible burial for Emily May 1900

Wyrion means grandchild/children.

In 1901 they are all listed as Webb for some reason.

She s listed with some other children all surname Jenkins and they are all listed as born in Wales. Also just realised OP says she was taken to Aston workhouse in 1904

I think the relationship is "grandchildren" as the Welsh is "wyrion"

David, Morwenn and Benjamin are all registered with mmn Jones as far as I can tell.

we posted at same time jan..see my post 15...think this has to be our florence with grandmother in 1911 even though OP says she was taken to aston workhouse in 1904 she could have gone to live with grandmother after that..also see marks post 14 saying in 1901 all of the children are listed as webb..

Not so sure see my post 17 above.

Definitely not the Florence in Wales, she was actually born in Worcester. I think she was the daughter of Ann Evans' son in law (William David Jenkins) from his first marriage, the other 3 children are her actual grandchildren from his second marriage to Ann's daughter.

totally confused now mark which is not difficult but on the 1911 census it is written that florence was born in birmingham yet you say she was born in worcs ?

I think it's one of those classic cases of Anne (Evans) not really knowing where she was born and though to us Worcester isn't particularly close to Bham, to someone (possibly not very educated) in 1911 living in West Wales it probably was - surmising only.

I think Janice has found the correct Florence.

Not sure what happened to Florence's eldest brother (Albert William) but her other brother, Ernest, was possibly a butcher, married and had one daughter. If it's him, in 1939 he was living at 73 Green Oak Crescent and possibly died in 1962.
