Hi Tom, welcome to Birmingham History Forum. I am sure there will be members and others who would be morn than willing to help in your project. Can you tell us more about it.

Is it part of your research at university or other academic establishment and how will the information be disseminated.

Thanks.

Hi Morturn,

Thank you for your reply, I would like to use the interviews as part of my university of project on life in and around (and after) the Longbridge plant. Participants would be asked to shared their memories and experiences which will be used towards a dissertation which I aim to finish around 2024/25. Interviews can take place in person or remotely whichever is best for them. I would be happy to leave contact details if this does not go against forum rules?

Hi Tom

That sound like a super project and a great subject for a dissertation. I wish you well. Members can contact you in private via the “Start conversation” facility. It’s the small envelope at the top righthand side.

I do know a chap who worked at Longbridge, so when I see him ill have a chat with him.

PS is it a history degree your doing

Brilliant! Thank you very much!
Yes it is for history, and if anyone is interested I can give further details and answer any questions so feel free to send me a message.

Hi Tom, we are most certainly interested in history here, especially the industrial elements of Birmingham’s past. Maybe you could share with us what outcome or information you wish to achieve with your oral history project.

I did speak to my friend today but he spent most of his working life at the Solihull plant, only visiting Longbridge occasionally.

Hi thank you for taking the time to ask your friend for me that was very kind.
In general I would like to get a sense of what the plant meant to the community as a whole (I would like to interview as wider range of people as possible ) from thoughts and memories of the job to people who lived near it and their recollections. I would be keen to see what they feel about the area now it has be demolished as well.
From here I will use these interviews as part of a historical account of the area. Participants will be fully informed of how the interviews would be used etc, I can provide anyone interested with a full information sheet.
Thanks again!
Tom
