John Vincent Kerr

master brummie
Hi all, this is my wife's dad side of the family. Been stuck for a few years on him. Nothing in censuses, birth or marriage or death. I have got hold of his son Vincent Kerrs birth cert. Also his son Vincent marriage which states his father as Vincent. His son seemed to change his first names, noted on death certificate. Not uncommon, be grateful if any one of you geniuses can help. Other family members have tried, to no avail. Another weird one which I have only recently tried to research. John Vincent Kerrs son was aka Henry Vincent Kerr. Thank you once again. Mrbluesky.

hi mrbluesky very odd from what you have said things do not seem to add up..i note you have posted part of a family tree is this a tree you have compiled ? also what exactly does the death cert state..the more info you can give us the better

lyn

not sure who you cant find on any census but ive found vincent kerr b 1862 6 terrace house 8 no 1 terrace ladywood on the 1871 census...mother mary aged 35 is a widow..vincent 8 and sister harriet 7 also 2 lodgers

but the 1895 marr cert you have posted for vincent kerr states his dad is still alive and is a soldier which contradicts the 1871 census

I think it Vincent's father, also named Vincent, he is looking for.

There appears to be Vincent Kerr b1833 on 1861 census. A private in the 49th foot.

Hi Lyn thanks for replying. The part of the family tree was off ancestry. No longer a member atm. What I saw was everyone who had researched on public trees had ended at Vincent Kerrs birth abt 1861. Not sure if that was where they wanted to stop at. So yes I got Vincent's birth cert to give me his father's name John Vincent Kerr. Also his sons marriage cert which states his father as Vincent, soldier. I'm still looking, so will update you. I think MWS might be onto something.

Totally agree, the marriage is correct.

Have you seen Vincent's sister's (Harriet's) marriage certificate? Do the details on it correspond to Vincent's?

Havnt seen it, not sure if it's on ancestry. Great idea, I'm not ancestry atm. Thought I'd finished for a while. Then it never finishes lol. Wife's fault.

Harriet marries a William Weaver, registered King's Norton 1884. William appears to have been a boarder/lodger with the family in 1881.

I think the difference is to do with how it was transcribed rather that how it was recorded at the time.

Not sure about this? Irish link, stab in the dark. Apologies this was on my phone. Didn't know how to transfer tablet. MWS......
Yes, Lyn, I've found out how to donate. Not Alot, but a tenner helps. Great site and always help.

so if above info is correct in 1861 vincent kerr is a soldier and in 1862 john vincent kerr is a gun finisher

lyn

At the moment I can't see how it can be proved that the Vincent Kerr on the 1861 census is the correct one but he is a possibility.

Unless a marriage between Vincent and Mary can be found or Harriet's marriage certificate lists a regiment (as some do) then it will probably just remain that.

1862 birth cert of Vincent Kerr, father a gun finisher, OK. On Vincent Kerrs marriage to Sophia Neale 1895 his father is a or was a soldier.
