Its crazy because id say here and now, a lot of people would take the opportunity to get out of Brum. moving to Italy would be a dream for some, even Oxfordshire has got to be better than here. When it comes to pre-1900 ancestors moving from one place to another there are always a number of questions that spring to mind, usually unanswerable.
Why did they move?
Why did they choose the place they moved to?
What did they think of it when they first arrived?
Did they remain in contact with any family that remained?
And no doubt others.
My great grandparents came to Bham from rural Oxfordshire in the 1870s and I have speculated on answers to the above questions. It must have been a strange experience.
For people moving from a different country it must have been even stranger.
Id have loved to of seen North Birmingham and the city centre in the 1920s.
So im going back to st Josephs tomorrow, I just hope someone can get their hand on a map for me, as no one ever answers the phone.
quick one aswell the uploads I put on yesterday of the burial records. On Felice and Angelina's it does list a John and Luigi as sons, are those the names you read? if so ill add to my tree as I think that will complete their children.
