Iommi family

A bit of luck, on findmypast they have the Philadelphia Catholic Parish Baptisms. There are 5 children listed for Eleuterio, some I've mentioned already...

Adelem 1907
Assumptam Eleonoram 1909
Carminem 1911
Michaelem and Joannem (twins) 1913

Only Carmine and Michael survived and I assume that the Carmine baptised in Bham died before the birth of the second.

Just before I catch up on everyone’s post, me and my dad visited st Joseph’s thismorning. Got talking to the lovely staff. The lady who deals with the register/burial info is on holiday. But they knew I was waiting for an email off Naomi from st chads. Anyway I got home, and I received this email- so happy.
I have ordered Maria death certificate, it should be here any day, so I will see who registered the death?!!?
im looking forward to finding the plot

hi suzanne...so am i correct in thinking that my gut hunch that felice and giueseppe are both buried at st josephs is correct ?

lyn

I thought he was born in 1876 and died 1927 which makes 51 correct. Or have I read something wrong?
They don't line up very well do they?
This is exactly my issue, its just the age of death? the address is right and his wife Maria would of been widowed. The other guiseppe lived at 17 duddeston and his wife had already died so there would be no widow.

I didn't realise you could see these records without a subscription.

Found Rosa's card as well

wow Im just catching up with all these. It may be a silly question if you all know but was there a reason they were all leaving Italy for England?? also when I find the locations in st Josephs which will be this weekend hopefully, would you like me to upload?
When ive completed that then im going to be moving on to photos. Im guessing they all had passports when coming over. Saying that ive just asked google and it said not necessarily, I thought there might be a photos on them.

Do please upload - it can be frustrating to only get part of a story - nice to see the outcome of our help.

That's just from the search results, there are transcripts and scans that I can't see...
Apparently some records are free as part of FMPs Catholic Archive.

Here we go - in no particlar order

Like most people who move to a different place it was probably for work/better life. Italy was a fairly poor country in those days, especially the south.

I doubt they needed anything like a passport.

On todays visit.

Hmm interesting. It must have been for a better life as it seems they all came.

When it comes to pre-1900 ancestors moving from one place to another there are always a number of questions that spring to mind, usually unanswerable.

Why did they move?
Why did they choose the place they moved to?
What did they think of it when they first arrived?
Did they remain in contact with any family that remained?
And no doubt others.

My great grandparents came to Bham from rural Oxfordshire in the 1870s and I have speculated on answers to the above questions. It must have been a strange experience.

For people moving from a different country it must have been even stranger.

Contact with other family members may have depended on literacy. So many of our ancestors could not read or write - registration certs with an "x" as their mark.
