I am trying to get more info on my uncle, Cyril Hopkins, born between 1897 and 1901 probably in Birmingham. a gents outfitter at a company called Dukes. He married a May (don't know maiden name) He died in 1973 they had no children.

This is the sum total of what I know of Cyril, I found a cyril as a boy in Hospital I think in 1901 census.

Can any of you clever devils help, much appreciated.

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Well.......mis spent youth or not a result.I have sent for certificates of birth and death.
As Cyril was born after my aunt (b 1897) and befor my father (1901) I have gone for the 1898 birth.........we'll see what results come back if any.

Where did you look to get the info........I looked on census, BMD etc but found nowt!!

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Another mystery I'm afraid, but I believe they would have married in Birmingham (If they did of course) I also believe they were Quakers so may not hav married in conventional manner.

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Well guys, what can I say.....apart from thanks. The certificates arrived yesterday and they were spot on, so I have i little more detail to fill in.

Where do you look to get that info you gave me?

I would really like the marriage certificate to give me that last bit of detail...but.....asIsaid, I think they were quakers does that give problems as I can't seem to find any mention of them.

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Do you know when May died?

We could try and track the marriage thru her birth/death....

Re: Cyril Hopkins

No I don't Jayne, except that it was after Cyril who died in 1973

If have now found out that although she was always called May by the family, her recorded name was Alice May........

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Here's two deaths .one could be her?

Alice Hopkins
Birth: 24 Aug 1904
Death: Aug 1984
Birmingham, Warwickshire

Alice Hopkins
Birth: 31 Aug 1892
Death: Jun 1986
Birmingham, Warwickshire

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Thank you jayne........always worth looking into. I'm still stumped on the Marriage, I will need to look up in the library first I suppose as I'm not at all sure if, how or when they were married.

Re: Cyril Hopkins

Still confused Di........an age thing!!

I THINK I need to look to the meeting rooms for clarification, but where are they? I will have to do some trawling.I know there is one in Bournville and Cyril was a friend of Barrow Cadbury so that might be a clue eh!

Re: Cyril Hopkins

The Meeting Rooms in Birmingham are still in Bull Street, almost next to the old Lewis's.

I think you will probably find most of the records you need have been deposited in the Library, together with meeting notes, which I bet, will be well worth searching.
