Morecombe, perhaps late 60s. Anyone remember the pier ?

“West End Pier was one of two piers in Morecambe, Lancashire, England, built during the late 19th century to an eventual length of 1,800 feet long and officially opened on 3 April 1896 by Colonel William Henry Foster MP. The pier was one of the first structures in the town to be installed with electric lighting in 1899. The pier suffered storm damage in 1977 and with repair costs of £500,000, the pier was instead demolished the following year.” (Wikipedia)

I must admit that I had no idea where Puttsborough was situated. This card was sent to my mother from her brother in 1960.

It appears that the buildings shown are now in ruins seen from the 3D Google view.

A postcard from Great Yarmouth in 1958, and the present Street View…

The Kimberley now seems to be part of the Carlton Hotel as shown in the Street View.

The Blue Plaque to the right on the Street View is for…
Major Sir Egbert "Bertie" Cadbury was a British businessman, a member of the Cadbury family, who as a First World War pilot shot down two Zeppelins over the North Sea: L.21 on 28 November 1916, and L.70 on 6 August 1918: the latter while flying a De Havilland DH.4 with Robert Leckie as observer/gunner. Do not remember the hotel, but do remember the clock!

Weston-super-Mare in 1959, or card received that year, and I was there. However, didn't go by coach but cycled there. It was in April and the Easter Holidays. Went with a friend starting in Hall Green and had two stops down, Cheltenham and Bristol YHAs. Then 3 days in Weston. Saw a film "Operation Amsterdam" which was only shown again last week. We cycled back via Bath and Stow on the Wold YHA and then back to Birmingham. I was 16.5 years old at the time. The days of youth and fitness. I had visited the Winter Gardens several times before with parents and grandparents.
Used to cycle to school regularly so was reasonably fit but didn't do hostelling trips, then one year a friend who was usually to be found doing fifty mile bike races had been injured and invited me along as part of his recovery programme. It was this time of the year, last week in September and we did finish up in Weston, Hutton and it would have been around the time The Beatles burst on the scene so '63? I remember The Fosse Way, Duntisbourne Abbots, St Braviels? Aust Ferry would it be pre Severn Bridge, Ludlow, etc. You could certainly get around on a bike using YHA.

I remember most of those towns that you saw on sign posts over and over as you rode by on your bike. A group of us usually 4 sometime 2 would go everywhere on our bikes and YHA’s! Great memories……
