History of roads

Could someone please tell me what the Warwick Road (running from Birmingham out through to Solihull and beyond into Warwickshire countryside) was called before it became known as the Warwick Road? I have been searching to find the name of the road (in the last couple of centuries or so) going back into history.

I am trying to find the public house that took its name from Seven Star Road and which, supposedly, stood at the junction of the Warwick Road and Seven Star Road. I have been looking at local census records going back to 1841 in the hope that I can find it but when I ask for Warwick Road in Solihull, it doesn't come up with an answer. The options are either Lapworth or Birmingham. I have a feeling that going back to when the pub might have been in existence that, it would have been known as being in Solihull, Birmingham. When I was a child we often received post addressed to Shirley or Solihull in Birmingham.

Can you please think about this to see if you have any ideas? Thank you.

I think it would have been called the Birmingham Road from the centre of Solihull going towards Birminghamm and the Warwick Road in the opposite direction . Certainly in 1902 (see below). This would be the normally expected naming

On the 1886 map it does change as Mike says. (The Road alongside the Nursery is Lode Lane). I don't think Seven Star Road existed back then

I am wondering if the road was named after the pub.
I found this reference to a Seven Stars Inn (although it doesn't say exactly where) in 1888

Yes, I think that the Seven Stars would have supplied a very apt name for when the council was putting the road through to Lode Lane from the Warwick Road. Hence, as we have it today; Seven Star Road. Thanks for the cutting above. It's very useful. Perfect, thank you.
