Re: Edith k hinton ;

Hi ladylinda;
many thanks for your valuable time given to me by you;
i will dot these two birth dates down; and i will try and follow through in our worcestershire sociey
about these dates ;as the jelfs are well documented and thatshe would be a sister to my grand mother whom
was an hinton; i am not to sure about the stourbridge connection thou ; but i did have a document
some where a long time ago that they had lived some where in the kingswithern i think i spelt itright which i thoughtorininaly that would have been stourbridge way ;
any way lady linda once againfor your help; its questioni really want to put to bed ;
best wishes astonian

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Hi Astonian
I have looked as well and have the same results as ladylinda.
I cannot find a marriage for Edith to George Hadley.
I think the area you mentioned would be Kingswinford.

Can I ask who was your Grandmother ?
I may be on the wrong track but I can see a Bertha Hinton marriage to an Ernest Jelf in 1916. But that would make your Grandmother a lot older than sister Edith.

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Good Morning linds
yes my grand mother was bertha victoria Hinton and es my grand father was ernest jelf in 1916 was there marrige i beleive to be true
is it possible that eith was my grand mother,s sister or not ; i came across of a peice of paper with her name edith hinton
marrying a george hadley can this be verifyed or not what i am really after whom was the mother to my grand mother
on my grand mothers birth cert; its states it was hwer father whom registered her birth . no mention of the mother and its was where you
i rea it was kngswinford which i thought it was stourbridge way ; and anoth addres was high park rd smethwick was another address i had given years later the father of bertha was a police officier but cannot gt a lead on bertha nor kay ;as to whether they are sisters and whom would be the oldest of the two but highly importants to me whom was the mother ; to berta and edith
many thanks linds for your help;on this best wishes alan ;; astonian;;

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Hi ladylinda

i never got to ind out whom was bertha,s mother so i cannot say yes or no to the peron you are reffering to as wootan
and i never knew of the other lady,s i had heard here was a half brother named ted ; some where but where from or even is
surname from the past and even a male person connect to the jelf or one of the other had died on a ship as merchant seamaman many thanks astonian

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Hi Astonian,
Sorry it has took a while to get back to you, Ive been busy painting at my Mom's and also trying to unravel the Edith Hinton/George Hadley marriage.

The information that ladylinda has given you looks right to me and given the information that you had already, that is, the London Connection, Ted, and also Bertha's father being a Police Officer, it seems to all tie up, thus giving Catherine Wootton as your grandmothers mother. But this would put your original statement that Edith was born in 1917 out because Edith, the sister of Bertha on the census was born around 1885.

As for the Hinton/Hadley marriage. I still cannot find one but if your original birthdate of 1917 for Edith was incorrect and it was indeed the one born around 1885, then I have found a possibility but with a discrepancy which may or may not be a mistake made in the transcribing of the original records...
It's the closest I could get though !!!!

I worked on the basis that perhaps Edith married twice...
I found a marriage of an Edith A Hinton to an Albert J Perks in 1912, 3rd quarter, Birmingham, Vol 6d Page 149
and then I found a marriage of an Edith K Perks to a George Hadley in 1941 2nd quarter, Birmingham, Vol 6d Page 203.
The discrepancy is Edith's middle initial of A and K.

I did find a record for an Edith Hinton marrying in Wolverhampton 1907 but her partner is a mystery because in the appropriate quarter there are only 3 people listed where there should be 4 !! and I cannot seem to locate the missing 4th man. Maybe someone else will be able to solve that one.

Sorry I have not been able to find you anything definite Astonian
Regards
Lindyloo .....PS I have a Hinton in my tree, but I do not know if he was related to yours.

Re: Edith k hinton ;

hi lindy
many , many thanks for your most valuable time you have give to me on this matter it certainly given e some think to chew on
my mother used to mention a chap called ted being a relative so he was her mothers relative infact her moms brother ;
thats good news i was only young when i used to se my grand mother and i mean young when i used to see herand she died when i was young
so we never learnt alot about her family nor grand mother its was only when mom reflected oh her life she would discuss certain things about her mom and dad and her grand father and there life stories of haveing and owning propertis all over the place and bussines and have servants around the house
in handsworth and down inworcestershire [ old cow honeybourne village ] as it was called in those days; now its call jus honeybourne ; a complete moderen village combined now we use to be taken there fo the six weeks holiday in a thathed cottage , very quant in deed
we was only little kids at the tme and the local s use to greet us and asked are you mr jelfs grand children from birmingham we all said yes ;
but any way ; geting back on track some body did give me info; a couple of years ago that edith married a george hadly
and that posible she may have been the same mother to bertha but i never couldfind out so nowyou hve confirmed it for me ; [ thanks lind ]
the london connection was right because when i first started a couple of years ago is where i first started totrace the origin of the family ;
and i can see where raymond jelf cousin decided to go that way in his early dayd of his life thats where he is now down the london way he followed in grand fathers foot steps he ven went to the church in honeyborne to get married and registered there from brum
because nearly all thejelfs got married in that particular church the old grave yard is full of them fromgereation to generation
any way i have realy chuffed as beans of the info ; you both have given me ; i wll down load this info; fromboth of you and put itin my fle
so if i can get my grand mothers marrige certif ; will it confirmmy gran mothers stateus as being married before or not and whom was her parents do you think
i beleive they got a special licence i think my mother said at the time at st martins church
so i will persue that one ; many thanks lind i will come back to you on my progress ;
have a nice day best wishes astonian ;;

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Ladylinda thank you for sorting that out :) I wasnt convinced that I had it right because of the time span (it was late !!) but what you have found all makes sense.

Astonian, It wasnt your grandmother BERTHA that I thought had been married before ..it was her sister EDITH, but ladylinda has sorted it out by the looks of it.

Re: Edith k hinton ;

HI GUYS ;
You both have hit the jack pot for me, it,s fantasic ;i am speechless ove this ;
i always thought there was another memberof the family so there was a half brother as mom used to thnk ; but was not sur about it
i recal mom taking me and my sister to sefton rd when we was kids there was an elderly lady in a wheel chair and there was a younger lady and a young girl caled gaynor and mom thought she was the grand daughter to the house bound lady ;
so my jig saw is coming to the end and to tell me that my grand mother bertha was not maied before
so therefore it would havebeen my great grand father whomwasremarried ;

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Hi Astonian, The name of Gaynor would fit in because there is a Birth Record for a Gaynor M Hadley, mothers maiden name PERKS, born 1950, June quarter, Birmingham.
But I dont know about your Great Grandfather being remarried ? To work it out properly we would need to study it back from your parents and grandparents I think.. If you want to pm me those names I can take a look for you if you like, just to be sure.

Re: Edith k hinton ;

HI Linds ;
many thanks for coming back to me on this ;so its seems edith was married to george hadley or may be not
gaynor could have been born out of wed lock; then or at least there was an intermit association between them [ edith and george ]
i beleive one of them ran a shop in witton ; many tears ago i think it was a sweet shop ; and one of them possibly george got killed during the war years ; thanks for offering me your em; i will send one later this evening as i am preparing to load up now and on my way to hamms hall lane car boot
as i trade there every week and have customers waiting i aso do the belfry in sutton
when i come back later toda i will em you the details ; [ thanks linds you are a true star ] have your self a nice day best wishes astonian ;; alan ;

Re: Edith k hinton ;

Hope you had a good day Astonian, you certainly had nice weather for it. Will wait to hear from you.

Re: Edith k hinton ;

hi guys
further to my researching of edith hinton ;and george hadly and into perks tree history
i wonder if i can make a request to put up is there any possible other members on the forum whom may be alive today
whom may have been related in any way to either of the said family and may have any pictures of them that they could share
or even contact me by e, mail off line i would imagine gaynor could possibly alive as she was young at the time i met her in my childhood days
because i am afew years older than her ; when they was living in sefton rd ;
also could i possibly asked if anybody any body to do a cencor check on beafort road edgbaton for the fortys for any other members
namely hinton or of the perks they was living in a grand large house in those dayd i notice when visting the samenightto sefton rd it had a gravel drive and on entry i seen above in the entrace hall those boxes for the servant bells to come to a certain room
i really wouldlike to find out if any of those two familys was in beaufort rd edgbaston which used to run behind the plough and harrow hotel and that rd years ago many thanks for all your time if possibly can be done ; astonian
