Henrys Stores

I can't remember the last time my Mom went in to the centre of Birmingham, she lives about 25 miles away and has done for years. I always wanted to take her in to town to show her the changes, some really nice like the area around by the canals and Victoria Square, but she's not well enough now.

Mom has started to open up about her life. Her father (my Grandfather) left home when he was just 15 years old and came down to Birmingham from Newcastle and worked as a waiter in the Midland Hotel on New Street where he met my Nan.

Thank you for responding, she can remember more from her childhood these days than more recent things, and think she's trying to reach out to people who might remember her from her past.

Thank you.
Morning B, sorry I don't have a correct name for you. People do talk more about their lives as they get older and we don't always realise what they have done or been through. My mum told me she worked in a hotel in Birmingham, probably as a kitchen maid, but I can't remember the name though, might have been the Midland. She did say that the cook made a delicious Queen of Puddings! Perhaps she worked alongside your grandfather! I wonder if there is a list of workers somewhere that would confirm where she worked.
