Hi Lynn
the pub belonged to the dolphin family so there fore the surname would have been a dolphin
but which christian name i am not sure about
it would be one or the other ;
namely ; John ; or Edward or Elizabeth the wife or is son edmund dolphin;
the Dolphin family moved from solihul to swan hurst
john dolphin died 1854 as a batchelor

thanks alan...im trying to find out the name of the landlord above the door...it may help us in dating the pic....

lyn:)

I guess it needs a lookup on a Kelly's if someone has one for 1836 ? Do you have any idea where it was Lyn ?

hi ernie...we have a problem here as the caption does not actually give a date for the pic of the pub....the reference to 1836 is telling us thats the date of the auction noticed i also posted.. ...the pic is much later than that...its all on the pubs thread...

I think you need to find a copy of the original photo not a newspaper/magazine as the image is made up of dots that are not fine enough to allow the name to be read at magnification. The image needs descreening.

I've just got the "pro" version of Adobe Photoshop. Tried it but even with this can't read any blow ups. Like Mike said the paper photo is probably not the quality to allow this.
