Ghost signs of Birmingham

Three in the Small Heath area. Johnston in Grange Road, I think, look to have been furnisher suppliers. Not sure about the other two on Green Lane. The B&W sign looks like it might have 'Andrews' in the name', the one next door might have 'music' in the name

In 2008 Nos. 372 and 374 were occupied by Green Lane Music Centre, some time between 2008 and 2011 No. 372 was taken over by Gerry Andrews (Hairdresser)

That's great, thanks John ! We can also see the writing above 'Players', quite a lot of information about Haywards shop.

Both of these corner shops are at the junction of Aston Lane and London Road. The first one, now covered over, seems to have "Corner" in the name. The second one seems to have been some sort of repair shop before it was a barber shop.

Update on post #30. The photos in the post were of George Ellison's (now Tufnols) on Wellhead Lane. Opposite the factory was a former Ellison's site that was in the process of being cleared The gates into the site had the 'E' Ellison logo and the pillars each side had lamps on top, exactly the same as those on the factory entrance gates across the road.

Today the site has become a bus station. The gates have gone, being replaced with new ones, but the two lamps remain on top of the pillars. Would have liked to have had that 'E' logo, hope it's gone to a good home.

Sadly this must now go down as a "ghost sign" I guess - compare to my photos of the late 70's on the Snow Hill Station threads:-

However if you look behind Taylor & Challens there is another sign on the building to its right:-

Could possibly be "Diesets"? I'll have to go back with something a bit better than an Iphone camera.......

This might have been on here before, but not sure as I think my search function has problems since the site went down. Looks like Darrow - Newsagent, Tobacconist, Confectionery.

This one is tucked away near 71 Hamstead Road Handsworth. To the right are now new buildings. This sign must have been in a passageway off Hamstead Road. Not sure of the name, maybe Strood ? They were builders and decorators.

(Just out of interest, the newer houses to the right of this sign don't look out of place in this part of the road, a sympathetic rebuild).

This was uncovered in 2020, at the junction of Pershore Road and St Stephen's Road. Like many of these painted signs, they include a variety of fonts. In the two years its b3en uncovered, the sign seems to be fading.
