Thats as bad as a being sent to the stores for a long weight and a tin of striped paint and a hairless brush

When I finished my Apprenticeship & had my own little" GOFOR" .He reversed the roll on me .
On returning to my desk after a liquid lunch I found a scribbled note stating that a Mr C.Lyon had rang about a pump for his new pool, the note had a ring back Number attached. So thinking this was a new customer I called the Number. you guessed it was DUDLEY ZOO.  :2funny:
That "GOFOR" did not know what to say for a week  :knuppel2:

It took me some time to find out what a FOOTPRINT was, as I had never heared of this tool untill I moved into the Engineering Shop at Witton.
I thought I was being set up again.

In London we had an unkind April Fool's trick for new boys, telling them Mr Sydney R Burbridge wanted to speak to him - could they call him back on ....... (phone number of the Australian tourist office). Geddit?

My first job was working for T. Elvins & Son in Naden Road, Hockley. This was in 1981 and I earned about £30 per week. It was a great place to work and I have very happy memories of my time there. It was such a shame when they went into receivership some of the guys had worked there nearly all their working lives. Proper tradesmen. Never should have happened.
