Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales dies aged 93

they loved boating together
Watching Tim and Pru's Slow Boat, you wonder there aren't more mishaps. Prunella Scales is was astonishingly nimble: shimmying along locks unfazed by the sheer drop either side. Her husband was at the helm and responsible for a few sickening crunches as the boat bounces off the bank.

"Yes, it's always Tim who steers!" said Prunella, with mock exasperation. "But I enjoy running up and down because of the wonderful wildlife on the towpath. And it keeps you fit."

It’s always sad to hear of the demise of an individual whose served and entertained the public, it’s made the front page of most national newspapers and headlined on TV. What connection with does Prunella Scales have or share with Birmingham.

The main connection between actress Prunella Scales and Birmingham is through the television series
Great Canal Journeys.

During an episode of the popular documentary series, Scales and her late husband, actor Timothy West, travelled from Birmingham to Braunston, Northamptonshire. The pair documented their travels along the UK's waterways, and the episode featured their passage through the Birmingham canal network.
Prunella Scales' connection to Birmingham comes from her career in the theatre, where she performed early in her career, and a later television programme
.Birmingham Repertory Theatre: Scales honed her craft at various repertory theatres early in her career, including the Birmingham Rep.

I’m sure that many Brummies watched Fawlty Towers as was done in the US and Canada. Sunday evening was always a time for a good laugh and wanting to be a part of or identify with Fawlty Towers.

Prunella was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1992.
Prunella and Timothy West had two children, Joseph and Samuel, an actor with credits including Howards End — he received a BAFTA nomination for that — Notting Hill (1999), Darkest Hour (2017) and the TV series Mr Selfridge. She also is survived by a stepdaughter, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

My wife and I loved that show. Watched it 2 or 3 times on Amazon. Was great for my wife, it was mostly all new to her

Was Timothy recognized by the Queen?
