Just letting you know that among the answers we have so far we have three that are wrong, and could we please have real names not character names and also the connection with Birmingham. On a happier note you have managed to identify 10 faces correctly so far.

The state of play at the moment is this, 19 out 20 of our people with a Birmingham connection have been identified. Which leaves only one remaining, there have been one or two duplicated answers and 5 wrong answers, when the final personality has been identified I will post a list of answers.

As all the questions have been answered and everybody has been identified here are the answers with a short description of their connection to Birmingham.
1. David Cox, Birmingham artist and English watercolour landscape artist born Deritend the son of a Blacksmith on 29[SUP]th[/SUP] April 1783 he died in 1859 and is buried at St Peters Harborne.
2. Jamelia Jamelia Niela Davis born 11[SUP]th[/SUP] of January 1981 Hockley Birmingham. Singer, songwriter, model, TV presenter.
3. John Baskerville, 1706 – 1775 born Woverley near Kidderminster remembered for his business interests whilst living in Birmingham which were paper mache, japanning, and printing. It was whilst working as a printer that he designed the world famous Baskerville type face.
4. John Wyndham, John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Benyon Harris born Dorridge on the outskirts of Birmingham but spent his childhood in Edgbaston lived 1903 – 1969. A Science Fiction writer who also used the name John Benyon among others.
5. Michael Balcon, Sir Michael Elias Balcon lived 1896 – 1977 British Film producer who worked for all the major British Film Studios before starting the Victory Motion Picture Company and then later Gainsborough Pictures where he is said to have given Alfred Hitchcock his first film as director.
6. Joseph Priestly 1733 – 1804 chemist, philosopher, clergyman, dissenter. Inventor of Soda Water and credited with the discovery of Oxygen. It was while he was minister of his church at Sparkbrook in Birmingham that his house and church were attacked in the Birmingham riots (known as the Priestly Riots) of 1791 and burnt down, after which Priestly left Birmingham.
7. Carl Wayne 1943 – 2004 Birmingham pop singer actor born in Winson Green and lived at Hodge Hill later. Lead singer of The Move pip group in the 60’s.
8. Charlie Hall 1899 – 1959 film actor born Washwood Heath Rd Ward End. Mostly known for his films with Laurel & Hardy but also appeared with Buster Keaton & Charley Chase.
9. Francis William Aston 1877 – 1945 born in Harborne a chemist and physicist who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1922 for his work on Nuclear Power
10. Frederick W Lanchester 1868 – 1946 Automotive & Aerodynamic Engineer who was responsible for manufacturing what was the basic design for all cars today in his factory at Sparkbrook.
11. Hazel Court 1926 – 2008 born in Boldmere she studied drama in Birmingham and started her
career in films aged 16, she moved to America where she appeared in many films of the horror
genre.
12. Jane Rossington born 1943 in Derby, but moved to Sutton Coldfield when she was four years of
known mainly for playing the daughter Jill of Meg Richardson in the soap Crossroads.
13 Oscar Deutsch 1893 – 1941 born in Balsall Heath Birmingham and was the founder of the
Odeon chain of cinemas.
14 Francis Patrick Roach 1937–2004 born in Birmingham he became a wrestler and won the British
Heavyweight Championship once & the European Heavyweight Championship Twice. He
appeared notably in the television series Auf Wiedersehen Pet and many films after he retired
from wrestling.
15 Keneth George Baker born Birmingham 1934, first became known as part of the comedy
musical act the Minitones but gained greater fame as R2 D2 in the Star Wars films.
16 Raymond Huntley born Birmingham 1904 – 1990 a successful stage and film actor who played
many parts and is credited with being the first actor to play Dracula after Bram Stoker himself.
17 Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle born Edinburgh 1859 – 1930 writer who is known most for his
books about Sherlock Holmes. Worked as a chemists assistant at Aston Rd North in Birmingham
while studying medicine at Edinburgh University.
18 Sidney Arthur Field born Birmingham 1904 – 1950 born in Ladywood but spent most of his
childhood in OsbornRd Sparkbrook, successful stage and film star.
19 Richard Mark (hamster) Hammond born 1969 most noted for being Co presenter of the TV
show Top Gear as well as other shows.
20 Peter James Bernard Powell born 1951 Birmingham. Former Radio 1 DJ who now is a manager
for other performers.

Watching "Celebrity Pointless" yesterday, I noticed that Helen George who was in "Call the Midwife" was one of the contestants.
Listening to her cut glass accent I looked on wicki to see her history. I was surprised to see that she was born in Birmingham.
I can't find out anything else about her though.
