:) Cheers Alf. Pete's going to have a look later when he's finished in the garden. He used to play for a team called the Animals. Jean.:)

We loved it. We went to the one by the Albion Football grounds and all the players came i to play. They were a great team in the 60's and sharp looking with their college boy hair cuts and very neat clothing. :) Mo

Hi Jean..

I bowled at Fairlanes in the early sixties. I played in the Sunday afternoon league... Bugs Bunny League ....Our team was The X Unknowns..
My brother ran the league..Other teams in our league I remember were The Autospares... and Three hits and a miss.. cannot remember any more.
I do remember I was bowling there when I heared of President Kennedys asassination.
Great times.....:):):)

:)Izabeline. Was your brothers surname Brewer?. Pete used to play against him and autospares. I didn't take ten pin bowling seriously until I was 40. In the 60's I worked with horses and did not get home till late. Used to watch the Midnight bowlers though. Pete and my son Pete used to run two leagues in town till it closed down. We bowled at Stirchley Acocks green and Wolverhampton. Also did competitions all over the place. Do you remember Janet Slym. We met after many years and bowled together till 7 years ago. Bye for now. Jean.

No Jean.. My brother was Bob Amos..
I used to go midnight bowling at Wylde Green.
( my mom thought I was staying at my friends )lol
And sorry, no I did not know Janet.
I played Laugue bowls here in Warwick from 1990 until 2000. when I sadly had to give up due to ill health. I do so miss it... I want a WI now.. I can manage bowling on that..;);)

Jean I remember 'The Animals' they were the a Mad lot, whats Petes other name.:)

I used to go to Wylde Green there was about ten of us great fun, i wish i could meet all of the folk that i used to go with. What poser's we were...Cat:)

Izabell I remember all those teams you mention, Autospares,Three Hits & A Miss.

We were the Autospares biggest rivals.

We were L.C.C. Garages Electric Ave. they were our sponsors in those days:)

:) TTFNIzabellAnne. Just bought a wiiiiiii they are great. I packed up about the same time as you after two operations. Got more balls than golden balls [Jasper Carrot] Pete used to bowl with Loll Ellis and his dad Bill. That was at Acocks Green. We bowled for the Mega Bowl under Birmingham Bulldogs and had a lovely mascot bull dog until someone kidnapped him. He used to send us postcards from all over the world. It was the captain of the Brierly hill team who did it. We could see the funny side of it but someone in the squad threw a benny. ttfn. Jean. :)

:) Alf. It's Smith. He did one 300 up town and most of the strikes were to the left. Thats how it goes. Put a ball in the pocket and you'l leave some standing. It was a Brewer [not beer] who captained the autospares. Im 4 years younger than Pete and didn't know him when the Alley first opened. :) Bye. Jean.

Izabella I remember the XUnknowns I use to play 5 Days a week and Midnight Bowling Saturday and Played for the House Team Villa Park on Sundays. Still got the Shirt & my L.C.C. Shirt I'll get my Son to photograph them and put them on this thread:)

I've got the names of Players from those days in our in Our Team Record Books there is over 40 different Teams

Jean Brian Brewer managed the Autospares Team Team don't think he played maybe wrong.:)

Jean... I am so jealous of your WII, Have you played the bowling yet.? I played 3 games on my Grandsons, I could not move next day.. hee...heee.
but if I had one, and played it regularly I could get super fit.:D

Alf... Would love:) to see the photo of your bowling shirt..

Catkin: I used to go to Wylde Green after they turned the Pavilion into a bowling alley for ten pin bowling using Brunswick equipment for the alleys.
It put me in good stead when I went to live in Canada and joined a ten pin bowling team.

I had my first official drink in the club upstairs at Wylde Green...Rum and Pep..... I also remember, fondly, I might add, the foot long hot dogs which were called Doozle Dogs...very delicious. I used to go with my boyfriend
back then. We missed the cinema but we enjoyed the Bowling Alley.

Did you keep them in mothballs Alf. Very well preserved as I am sure you are. Do you remember an incident where Morris Gardener was knocked through doors in the club room and downstairs?. When you said the animals were a mad lot I think you are right but they would have been whiper snappers in those days. Bye. Jean.

A chap name Pete Eden went through the front glass doors as well.

He was mad when he Bowled I've never seen anybody throw a Ball as fast and I mean throw.

No I just hung them up 20 years ago when we moved here and I took them out a couple of days ago. Before that they moved around with me.

They were made in Swindon 44 years ago and I thought if the Firm is still about I'll ask if they want them for their Museum

JennyAnn lovely memories, i missed the cinema too went every Sunday, but i did enjoy the bowling... Cat

Izabell

The Blue one is when I played for the House team we played on Sundays against other Bowling Alleys in a League around Brum.

Alf. Pete said the name Eden rings a bell. Were you there the night Micky Rodenight decided to do his regular party trick which was to jump over the glass cabinet in the foyer. Only this time he didn't make it and went through the plate glass. He was fine but us lot were in bits. He'd got a red face and a red b.. as well. Bye no l barman. Jean.

This was taken just a few years ago before the league on the evening. The boards were wood just like the old fairlanes. Tend to be synthetic rubbish these days. Jean.

Jean we have done Fairlanes before but I can't find it theres Photos I believe I've still got a couple I'll put them on later:)
I know we have had a topic on this before as you say Alf but I cannot find , My brother & his wife both bowled at VILLA PARK BOWL (David & Jill Jenney).I have been going though some old boxes of our past items & came across these name plates ,the throphies have long gone but these were at the bottom of the box.

Looking forward to that Keith. Do you remember Roger Craemer only we met up with him at a competition a few years ago?. TTFN. Jean.
