I am sorry to tell all members that the lovely Eric , a longstanding member of BHF has passed away.

Lyn/Astoness noticed he hadn't posted for a while and asked if i could see if he was OK.

I knocked the neighbours door today and he told me the sad news .
Eric was taken ill a few weeks ago and when his nephew visited he called an ambulance, Eric being Eric refused the chair and walked out, he then days later took a turn for the worst.
I have left my number with the neighbour who says he will let us know the date of the funeral.

R.I P. Eric we will miss your posts and your paintings

So sad to hear. He gave so much to the Forum - not just in terms of his wonderful painting but his comments as well. I think of him every time I go down my hall - painting of lovely wintry canal scene hangs there and also a print of Steelhouse lane lock-up.
Rest in Peace
(I will light a candle for him at Church tomorrow).

this is such bad news but thank you for finding out alberta i knew something was not right because eric is always on the forum ...a lot of us knew eric for many years..he attended every forum meet up we had and painted dozens of paintings to donate to our raffles...everyone wanted to win one of his paintings...he also painted for members privately and would only ever accept the cost of the frame..such a kind and generous man and i will treasure the paintings that i have of his...

That is sad news indeed. He was a very talented and prolific artist who painted numerous scenes in and around Birmingham. He would often paint the same location at different times, leaving us with a superb record of places and their social and seasonal changes.

We are fortunate that Eric's generosity enabled many forum members to become proud owners of one of his watercolours. His generosity extended to donating paintings for raffles to raise money for the forum's upkeep. Whenever there was an Eric painting up for grabs, there would be a near stampede to buy a ticket—or ten!

I am proud to own two of his paintings. They take pride of place in my dining room: one of the Birmingham canals that we all love, and another special one he did just for me of a Victorian Waterworks. He knew I was involved in a project to save the Grade II* listed building and, without being asked, he just got in touch one day to say he had painted it from a photo.

His knowledge of Birmingham’s history was quite remarkable, too. It was a real, lived experience—the kind of personal stories that inspire me and many others and give us a warm feeling about how history can enrich our lives. His contribution to this forum will always be the best history one can read, underpinning all the reasons why Birmingham is a great place.

Thank you, Eric. You will always be a part of our ongoing memories.

I am so sorry to hear this. He was such a nice man. If only more people were like him in the world. I am the owner of seven of his paintings, mostly won in raffles, though, on one occasion, when I had hoped to win another but did not, a few weeks later found he had painted another for me. He will always be remembered

So very sorry to hear this news! I loved his paintings and his style. The fact that he would paint the same picture at multiple times, I thought that to be truly artistic! His history of flying during the war was symbolic of Birminghams every man’s spirit. I do not have any of his art but am blessed to be a part of him and his work on this wonderful Forum.
Bless you Eric in your new life & bless your family for such a great loss!

Cherish those times Mike, we only pass this way once!
