This is just for fun, I thought you might enjoy the comparison of every day things and gasoline. I know the cost of petrol in the UK is very high but it has gone up to $1.21 a litre here which folks are not used to.Mo

All these examples do NOT imply that gasoline is cheap; it just illustrates how outrageous some prices are....
You will be really shocked by the last one! (At least, I was...)Compared with Gasoline......

Think a gallon of gas is expensive? This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective to other things we buy.

WATER and the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Ever wonder why printers are so cheap?So they have you hooked for the ink. Someone calculated the cost of the ink at............... (you won't believe it....but it is true........) $5,200 a gal. (five thousand two hundred dollars)So, the next time you're at the pump,be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, Pepto Bismol, Nyquil or Printer Ink! ​

I had not seen the Printer ink comparison before and am now off to dig a Printing Ink well in my back garden (Yard to you).

The US and Canadian dollars are on par with in one cent at the moment.

Thought you may like to know:

The price of one litre petrol in Northern Ireland is £1.10pence sterling = $2.18 US Dollars.

UK measure = 4.5 litres = one gallon

So we in the UK are approaching £5 stg per gallon of Petrol.

My Home heating oil has gone up £100 stg extra for the same amount of oil that I bought six months ago.

Proof it is all getting serious and we need to conserve the worlds energy.

Sakura....Those prices listed are a real shocker. Our gas prices here on the West Coast are at $1.30 litre today up three cents from yesterday! Prices went down five cents last evening. The printer ink item is dreadful. We buy ours in packs on sale and the Epson cartridges are not as expensive as some. You can buy a printer at Staples, basic mind you, but ok, for the price of one ink cartridge for some models. People should always check the price of ink cartridges before they buy a printer.
We can drive out of the Vancouver area into municipalities that don
t pay an extra tax to the government on gasoline and get the gas at around 99 cents a litre. The price is supposed to rise to $1.40 this summer.
It's a beautiful drive so it's worth it.

Re: the Cdn versus US dollar. It's been down as low as 96 cents against the US dollar over the last six months. The queues at the border crossings are horrendous some days especially weekends. People wait literally hours to get across to buy goods at US prices. In the early l990's when the dollar was at par with the US dollar we used to go three times a week to the US to buy groceries, like milk, cheese and gasoline. We live quite close to the US border so it didn't take much to make a run. Americans call Canadians Cheeseheads for that reason. We had lots of fun doing this but I wouldn't want to wait in those queues they have these days.

Louisa: I can sympathize with you over the heating oil price rises in particular. We have an oil furnace and it really doesn't do to look at your old invoices. Where it's all going end up I don't have a clue. Thank goodness the summer is coming. Hope it's a warm one.

To stop the rush to the border and loss of business up here; Canadian retailers have only to sell for the same price as down there. The dollars have been at par or close for almost a year, surely prices should reflect this by now. We keep getting thin excuses as to why they are not. Something is very wrong IMO.
I had the dreaded sign on the monitor a while back...ink is low in the following da da da. I was also shocked at the price of new ink but having tried refilling and aftermarket product with dissatisfaction I decided to buy the proper product grrr. Anyway, in the store after seeing the price I just could not reach for my wallet...hand would not go there...complete paralysis. I walked around in a quandry. Then I saw an all singing...all dancing...different brand printer. Introduction...promotion...INCLUDING INK. for only a bit more than the price of the ink for the, not that old, printer on my desk. The paralysis suddenly was cured. Gosh this thing does everything..probably even the Rhumba for Beryl. It's a little beauty and I love it. The older printer just sits ther now. Forlorn and not used..with dust on it, on the opposite side of the monitor. We are entralled at the abilities of the later model and have been for a couple of months now. Hmmm. the sign is back...ink is low in the following...da da da. Something just printed on the old printer it says..'Oh Dear'. With a faint yellow little smiley.
Perhaps there is another promotion on for another brand. Yeah, thats the way to go. Just keep buying alternative printers until there is a sale on overstocked ink. Fight..fight...fight er, maybe.
I will have to add more printer shelves...well..you can't throw these things away can you. They are still brand new.

Jenny - our gas was $1.21 yesterday so we are still a little behind you but I haven't seen the prices today yet.

Rupert - I tried the refill cartridges at Christmas and I was so disappointed with them, I took a hard copy of something and went back and complained. They gave me my money back and then said they would refill them again for me to try. Since then they have been ok except the colour is not as good.
It appears all cartridges are expensive so they have you caught. Mine are about $44 + tax each for a high density one from Staples, a little more from Best buy.

Louisa - We find oil fairly economical for heating our house. It is a bungalow but we have full basements here. The house is well insulated, with new windows and doors so the warmth stays in. Now the weather is warming up the heating will very rarely come on. I should check and see how much our oil is when we have it delivered.Mo

Sakura The last two printers I have bought, I got them because it was cheaper than getting two replacement inks.

Great about the printer Rupert. My husband bought one just for quick stuff.
He was totally amazed at what it can do.
The weather today is supposed to be warmer and sunny...hope so....it's 7:30am and the sky is grey....again.
Since we work at home and have ten rooms to heat we bought some Italian made electric heaters for our workspaces. This keeps the cost down as we keep the heaters on an automatic low setting which is cost effective.

Regarding buying a new printer instead of a replacement cartridge, you should be aware that many printer manufacturers (particularly HP) supply their printers with a first-cartridge that is not full - typically only two-thirds full. The contents are marked on the cartridge, but it doesn't mention it on the packaging round the printer when you buy it!

In the case of Epson printers, where the print head is fed by pipes from the cartridge holder, something like one-third of the ink in the first cartridge is used to fill the pipes before it reaches the paper.

If, like me, you prefer to buy the printer manufacturer's own cartridges, you might like to look at web-based suppliers in the Channel Islands who can supply them without charging VAT and, on special offer sometimes, with no postage charge. I use www.7dayshop.com but there are several others, too.

No good to you though when you run out of ink halfway through a print job that you need the same day!
