and still these properties lie empty when social housing is very much needed..you have to keep scrolling down to read the entire report

That is a disaster of epic proportions! Not only the cost overrun without seemingly any project controls but almost three years on and they are not being used for a very much need purpose.
I hope that the populace remembers at the elections!

sad to say richard quite a few of us predicted from the beginning that it would be another white elephant...did not realise just how much though :(

I drove past "the village" the other day - the bit in the middle of the road now looks like a scrap yard and I shudder to think what the flats must be like shut up and unaired for 3 years........
And remember - the Walsall Rd flyover was pulled down at a cost of £30M+ as it was "an eyesore" to the occupants of these flats...... and another £30M+ spent on a railway station that is an unstaffed halt in the evening.......

keith if i have read your post correctly they did rebuild the station for the games...what you see now is the new station

Yes, They did. The row of shops to the left and right of the Old dingy Station entrance were demolished and the larger station concourse / booking area covers the block.
I haven't yet seen any Then and Now Pics.

The station was never much to look at after the original 1830s station was replaced. Considering it was a very early and important station, its a pity it was wrecked in the 1960s. The damage was done long, long ago. Always thought it was an inhospitable place.

Yes that was my point....how did this cost millions and the before would probably have looked better....lol
Hi Keith,
The before was far from better, the original entrance was no wider than a entry between terraces, the booking office 'Hall' no bigger than a bathroom and the shops run down or vacant.
The new station is better but agreed, certainly not worth £30 Million.

hi martyn even though i am not a fan of the rusty design i do have to admit that compering that old line of shops and the old station to the new station it does look a lot better but i do think that at a cost of £30 million plus it does seem an awful lot of money
