I shall remember my Mom's Coop number till the Day I die.
The Milkman the Baker I use to stand on the Door Step
and repeat it every time.
At Christmas this all made sense off we went to the Coop
in Town to Collect the Divi.
It bought our Christmas presents.

PS Cant remember my own perhaps the Coop didnt last
long in the 70's I think they changed the System.
 
Ha ha my Moms was 288224, funny how some things you never forget and I was only a kid but I wished I'd got a pound for everytime I heard her say that number!
 
DIVI Number

How is it I can remember my moms Divi number 193602, but alas I cannot remember any one's telephone number?
Maybe because it was drilled into my head at every purchase whether it be a bottle of milk or a pair of curtains.:rolleyes:
I remember the Provident cheque my mom paid weekly for, and the rush to the city centre to spend the hard earned £20 voucher.
Modern day supermarkets think they invented the loyalty card?
No! The Co-op Dividend!
 
Is anyone using the Divi at the Co-op? I remember reading that the Co-op were bringing back a modern version of the Dividend two or three years ago.
I would imagine they would have competition from loyalty cards, etc. but if you shopped a lot at the Co-op stores it might be worthwhile.
 
Jennyann, they stopped the Divi from Jan 07 up here in Suffolk, now its the Divi Card and they send you Cheques from time to time which you can purchase goods with or put it in you Divi account at Head Office and get interest and Draw it when you like.:)
 
We have a swipe card ,they pay 5p in the pound on co-op goods.
Like Alf said, they send vouchers twice a year which can be used in the skop.

i remember going to the co/op in the city centre for my mother
she had the old black pass book for her divi
and her number was 232760 when she was hard up she sent me to town
with a note to the co/op
and they had an old fashioned lift it was an cage one
and as you was going up you seen all the entire floors [ departments ]
she may have got half a crown , 2/6p or if she was lucky
two half crowns , [five bob ] which bought usa packet of stork and a loaf of bread
 
Thanks for that info Alf. Sounds as though the Co-op had to retool in some areas after they brought back the Divi again. It's probably ok if you are close to a Co-op and shop there, therefore reaping some rewards.

How many oldie's remember their mom's Co. Op. number.
My dad remembers his mothers from 90 years ago,my mom's was 144681,to forget,could be painful.:cry:
 
My moms no. was 147818. I know there arent many Co-ops in Brum now but here in Suffolk, its all Co-op shops. Very popular. We still get the divi too. You dont have to say a number, just hand over your card when you pay for things and you get a payout twice a year.
 
There are three numbers you remember all your life,

1. Your service number (if you served of course)
2. date of the battle of hastings
3. Co-op 'divi' number


Which numbers are you most likely to continually forget?
 
I don't remember my army number,nor any other number,but mom's Co.Op number is never forgotten.On one occasion I was asked for my passport number in Changi Airport, didn't know it of course, so I gave them my mom's Co.Op.number instead,just added a P at the begining and a B at the end.lol
 
my moms was 103431 and i used it for the milk the bread and the butcher,they were heros those delivery men ,rain or shine they were always on time. we used to hitch a lift on the back of the milk float and feed the horse when they stopped in the HORSEROAD
 
Can't tell you my Mom's Co Op number because it's part of one of my passwords. Also my RAF number is part of a password. So they still have their uses. A man in our local Co Op gave me a form last week to have my own 'divi' number, but I would probably forget it.:)
 
My moms was 232245 and as stated before woe betide us if we forgot to give it. When I left school I worked for a company that calculated the divi's for quite a few co-ops, names that I thought were at the far flung reaches of the universe, Burslem, Stoke, many more that I can't bring to mind at the moment. We used punch cards, comptometers, big Power Samus tabulators and sorters, all information was taken from the copies of peoples purchases (when they gave you a ticket, they had carbon paper between and it left a hard copy for the store). As you can imagine some of the writing needed a lot deciphering.
 
My mothers number 125813 - never can forget it - always wondered how the divi was counted as the shop asst. figures were illegible. Loved to watch the 'cup' with the money go around the shop. Colleced the divi at the Co.op in Birmingham - I think I remember the divi was for our new school clothes. Miriam.
 
My late mother's Co-Op number was 302718. Funny how these things stick in your head when most people have difficulty remembering their own mobile phone number! :)

My mother shopped at the Co-op, in the 1940s, by the Punch Bowl pub, Ridgacre Road, Quinton. Her number was 175855. The
Co-op is popular here in Paignton and there is a large store in Plymouth. A quarterly magazine is produced by the Co-op and I sent them an article about my memories of shopping at the Co-op with my mother in the 1940's. They liked my effort and asked other members to contribute their memories which added extra pages to the magazine and I got a £20 voucher to spend at my local branch! Anthea:cool:

The co-op shops were a fascinating place for children [ for me it was]. the slicing of the bacon , the patting of the butter, and those blue sugar bags, but I always wanted to pull the pulley for the 'cup' but they wouldn't let me. Miriam.

I can still remember my Moms Ten Acres+Stirchley Co op number,37918, we used to have written in pencil on
the front door frame, We had milk, bread and coal from the Coop as well as food from the shop in School Road
Yardley Wood, For years the coop laged behind every other supermarket but Im gladto say they are now catching up.Apart from George Masons they had the field to
themselves at one time.

why is it that i can remember my Moms co op no 301826 back in the early sixtys and Dad first car reg no 738 foh, but i can't remember my own car reg ???
