While in Edgbaston I got a few shots of the Church of St Mary and St Ambrose on the Pershore Road.

They came out a bit dark (and have tried to fix them).

Was mainly around Edgbaston to get updates of the Cricket Ground before it's officially opened by the Duke of Edinburgh.

This was the original wooden church building of St Agnes, Wake Green - now the Church Hall for St Mary and St Ambrose.

Church of St Mary and St Ambrose, Edgbaston on Heritage Gateway

1897-98 by J A Chatwin. A large church with north-west tower and spire and
apsidal west baptistry, built of bright red brick and deep red terracotta dressings
and details, in a Decorated style. Mullions, tracery, pinnacles and finials
all in crisply modelled terracotta. Nave aisles and chancel, short transepts.
Clerestory above terracotta faced arcades.

St Mary & St Ambrose at Raglan Rd on the Pershore Rd was originally a mission of St Bartholomew Edgbaston. A new red brick and red terracotta decorated gothic church by J A Chatwin was consecrated in 1898 on a site given by Lord Calthorpe. There is an apsidal baptistery and a north-west spired tower in which hangs a set of 8 tubular bells almost certainly installed by Harrington, Latham & Co of Coventry in 1899. The building is Grade II Listed. The original wooden building of St Agnes, Wake Green survives here as a church hall.

I am looking for an image of St Mary & St Ambrose Church, Pershore Rd in the early 1900's shortly after it's opening in 1903

I don't know the date of this, but it must be pretty old as it looks like it was taken before the old brick built church hall was replaced by the timber one that has been there ever since I can remember and that is the early 50's. I'm afraid its not a very good photo.

My grandfather was the vicar at this church prior to 1950 - Rev. Dr. Martin Hughes.
