Aston Barracks was the HQ of the 8th Battalion (Territorial Army) Royal Warwickshire Regiment in Witton Road in 1906 until 1939. Then it was the 46 Battalion of the Home Guard then, in 1947 back to the TA Airborne Reg. It closed down in 1956.

What date was the business card ?

There's a thread about Aston Barracks - link below. It mentions the Barracks being sold to the Post Office in the 1960s. Could Yates have been a PO employee ?

He is listed at 3/51 Elkington Street (I assume this is the same property later called Park Place) on the 1939 register.

After thought
Barracks are not a Garrison
a Garrison contains multiple barracks
well all the Garrisons i was at did
ie Whitington barracks was my Depot
up to 4 Regiments there
it was a Barracks not a Garrison

There's a page about the 46 Battalion Home Guard which might be useful if we find, for certain, Mr Yates' connection with Aston Barracks The site includes photos of those attending the HG stand down dinner in 1944. Pity there aren't names attached to the photos. http://www.staffshomeguard.co.uk/DotherReminiscences81Handsworth.htm

The barracks were allegedly used by Post Office Telephones as a depot in the 1950s. One member on another thread remembers cycling to the Barracks in Witton Road to work at Post Office Telephones at the Barracks in 1956.

Presumably, Aston Barracks and Witton Barracks are the same barracks. We have BHF threads for both. I've already posted a link to the Aston Barracks thread in post #15. Here's the Witton Barracks link, which seems, to me, to be the same barracks.

I keep looking at the photos hoping to see one of my granddad Charles Coughlin, he was in the South Staffs all through WW1 and in the home guard but I don't know which regiment in WW2.

Is it really a letter (C or G or O) on the fold/crease of the card ? Could it be that the card is deteriorating and breaking away at that point on the that fold/crease ? Thereby leaving just the letters CSM ? If you zoom in on it, it's a very irregular shape for a letter.

Just another possibility.

But I'm suggesting something very different, that there is no ietter Lyn. I think it might be a tear/the card breaking away. As I said, just leaving the letters CSM.
