There was a William Cater at the Plough in 1808
The two 1830s press extracts mention William Cater.
Ann Cater transferred the licence to William Cater in the 1850s, so presumably, the licence was passed to William Cater (son?)
And there's one about the transfer of the licence in the 1880s from William Cater to Thomas Hanks
