Hi Folks. I've just joined this forum in the hope of finding some information about my grt grt g/father Samuel Carlisle/Carlile. I have details of his marriage to Phoebe Martin in Handsworth in 1819 & they may have had two children there, Mary c1819 & Thomas 1821. Then there were two more born in Smethwick 1826 & 1829. My grt g/father William was born in St Helens c1822 then the next info I have is 1841 census when Samuel & second wife & children are in Spon Lane, Smethwick. He is a glassmaker so I believe there is some connection with Chance Bros & Pilkingtons but am hoping to get more info about where Samuel came from.

Hoping the name rings a bell with someone out there.

Re: Samuel Carlisle

Thanks Pom but it's finding out where my Samuel was born that's the main sticking point. All I have is a no in the "born in this county" column for Spon Lane, Staffs in the 1841 census which tells me very little as I can't find him born in St Helens either. I have a death cert for a Samuel in 1843 aged 45 & that's in Mill Street, Ladywood. As I can't find him in the 1851 census I think this may well be him but it still doesn't tell me where he was born.

Thanks for the message though.
