Dragon boat race near the Sealife Centre in June (it won't be as busy as this in the autumn)

 
I have really neat book 'Canal Quest' 55 pages, by a Robert Davies printed in 1997 A guide to all the canals in the Midlands.Very well done plenty of info. If anyone is interested in having this book, let me know, I will be pleased to send it to you, for the costs of postage from the USA

A bit blurry but another nice one of the old wharfe.

There is a Black Plaque thereabouts that tells that the Paradise Street offices of the BCN were demolished in 1913. As this picture shows an assembly of workers in 1907 could it be after news of a closure?

Old Wharf was filled in in 1931. A couple of nice pictures from Pinterest for 1890s and 1913 can be seen here....

The recent image of the horse, staff and Midland Railway boat was taken at Lifford Lane wharf which was an interchange wharf between Railway and the Worcester & Birmingham Canal
 
In the 60’s I can remember that section of canal, it was strictly out of bounds to the public

Here's a more recent photo of the BCN Mainline just beyond the St Vincent Street bridge in Birmingham.

 
That's an interesting photo Ell. Would the bridge once have crossed over a branch ato the main canal at that point ? Or was it for some other use ? Viv.
 
Not sure, but there's various old buildings on the left.

footbridge between 43-55 Great Tindal Street (former factory building for Brockhouse Chatwin Precision Limited.) and the Victoria Works.
 
No basin marked between 43 and 45 on c1950 or c 1889 maps,so maybe it was just a small inlet

Its possibly just a small ‘arm’ that was used by a local factory or loading and unloading good. There were hundreds of these around when the canal network was active.


The Long Boat #886 had one that actually went inside the factory that was there before the pub was built. There are also a few at Gas Street Basin. I did go thought the one that went under Gas Street to a stone masons factory.

Am I right in assuming the close up photo is taken from the other towpath?

If you look at the aerial view, just below the bridge and on the right hand side, you can see the basin that would have passed through the goods sheds. The bridge on the other side would be just over the same distance again. Could it be the basin shown on this map published in 1890?
 
The basin into what was the former goods shed still exists. The bricked up arm would, as far as I can see, be that shown on the map leading to the bedstead works. I have the impression that the arm was discontinued a good while ago and access closed by some method - bricked up, gates or grille. The crossover bridge in the picture shows a reasonably new brick infill.
 
So can we assume the thin basin is now filled in ? I can't work it out from the images. Viv.

The basin between the Goods Sheds seems to be landlocked, but has a boat and a barge there.
