Hi Shera, again

Can you look up any details on the following baptisms for me:

3.6.1784 - Richard Chatwin
16.4.1759 - Thomas Chatwin
28.12.1807 - Thomas Fox.

By the way the post you did on the Bashfords the other day was also of interest to me as i have Bashfords in my direct line as well, so i am looking at the info you posted to see if it helps me. I always have a quick look at what you have posted but this is the first time i have found any connection, but it will keep me looking!!

Thanks in advance

hi from a very hot and sunny england (for once)

early baptisms had no extra info unfortunately but will post what there is -

3rd june 1784 richard son of thomas and mary chatwin
16th april 1759 thomas son of james and elizabeth chatwin
28th dec 1807 thomas son of john and elizabeth fox

nothing extra at all :(

Hi Shera

Thanks for your reply.

I think the Chatwins you looked up are not my ancestors, but the other possibility I have, who was baptised in St Phillips in 1782 and was buried in 1831 at St Peters, where his son was also baptised and married. So I'll try and look up some of those!!

Re the Fox side of the family I am at a stanstill on that - is it possible for you to see if there is a marriage for John and Elizabeth at St Martins about 1780's.

Finally in an earlier post you mentioned a CD you had. is it the GREATER BIRMINGHAM MISCELLANY CD, as I was thinking of sending for it, as it looks interesting to root through as my rellies seem to have come from allover Birmingham.

By the way its raining here in Sydney and only about 13C today!!

Wish I was in Brum!!

Hi Mike

Sorry forgot to thank you for your post, as you can see from above reply, I think the St Martin Richard Chatwin is the wrong one - was his birth date given as 1784 on the NBI - if it is I think it will clear that question up?

I've never seen the NBI only the posts on Find My Past, so is no relative information given?

Bev

re the marriage of john and elizabeth fox. ive found this one at st. martins

john fox bachelor and elizabeth worton spinster, both of this parish were married 25th december, 1797. witnesses were samuel smith and millicent hogg

i have the cd for st. martins records which is brilliant. i also have the bham miscellany, and i must say i rarely find anything on it that i need, the reason being although there are thousands of records on it, most are from very early years and just a few records for each church. for example the st. phillips records are only marriages 1715-1800. aston juxta is baptisms marriages and burials 1544-1640 (most of which are illegible as written in old english). there are some a little better like st. laurence, northfield with baptisms, marriages and burials up to 1850.

Hi Shera

Thanks again for the info. That marriage looks a good possibility, so I'll put it down as requiring more investigation!!!

I have been looking at the CDs from the BMSGH, and at the ones from St Martins which come on several CDs. Obviously Part One covers 1554 - 1822 for Births deaths and Marriages, and looks good, but can you tell me if the others which overlap some of these years have much more info on them. ie Part two covers baptisms for 1813 - 1839, will the baptism info be much the same for the years 1813 - 1822 as on part one?

Hi Shera,

Sorry to bombard you with questions - but this may be the last for a little while as i must do some other stuff!!

But I've looked on the IGI for births for Elizabeth Worton baptised at St Martins, and they have two down - the first on the 16th Oct 1781, and the second on the 28th Oct 1777, both with parents of William and Elizabeth. Can you just check for me that they are both in St Martins records. I am of course hoping only one is, or I am stuck again!!

Thanks

Bev

hi bev, 28th oct 1777 is correct but the other one (16th oct 1781) is not there. i found the birth/baptism on igi for the 1777 one, then if you click on the batch no. C010727 at bottom left of page and then fill in surname and parents names it will then give you their other children baptised at st. martins. there were four other children and there was a second elizabeth baptised 4 jan 1782 so i presume the first elizabeth baptised 1777 died.

baptisms up to about 1820 had no extra info but after that there is abode, and fathers occ.

Hi Shera

Thanks again. I didn't know you could do that - I must read instructions some time!! Like you I guess she may have died. I have checked on the IGI and there does not appear to be any other Whorton, so I guess the spelling may be incorrect as well

The only problem now is that Elizabeth would have got married at 15 nearly 16, but I guess that was ok in those days.

Also did you see my query re the parish records Cds

i think there were some marriages of age 15 or 16 as i sometimes see age as "minor" though it seems uncommon.

the question about the baptisms etc which overlap, would be the same info. there was nothing more recorded in the early years. the st. martins records i have are one complete set. i think it was a dvd rather than cd.
hope this answers your question.
