I couldn't find any numbers passed 153 on the 1881 census, however there are a lot of new houses being built in the area.
I also found another Perry family who are Jewelers in the area in Church St
Dwelling 28 Church St

John PERRY Head M Male 53 Birmingham, Warwick, England Jeweller Employs 1 Man 3 Boys
Clara C. PERRY Wife M Female 51 Hall Green, Worcester, England

Hope this helps.

Pom

Hi Pom. I will have to check the plaque on the front of the two houses in Burbury Street as it does have the date they were built on there. I did think it was 1878 or something like that but it could just as easily be 1887. I wonder who owned these houses and were the Perry's just tenants. When my nan's sister bought these houses I was told she bought them at auction from St. Silas Church for £200 each! I don't know when this would have been.

Thanks for your help.

I suppose it would be worth searching rent books. I have never done this I think they are at the library. Does anyone know if the are listed by road or name?

Hi Jules these look like more of your Perry's living very close to the others. Martha looks like she remarried Mr Griffin hence the stepchildren.

Whilst in local library I had a browse through past Carls Brummagem magazines and noted an article on Mr. Jennings ( Baker property etc) was quoted as living at 306 Burbury Street which looks like a double fronted house (hence bigger) see map in your other thread ‘Shop in Burbury Street.

Ray

Ray that was an article I wrote about my fathers family Mr Jennings was my great grandfather. I took these pictures in about 2004. The large house was my great grandfathers bakery which is at the top of Burbury Street. The other two photo's were taken of what is left of the bottom end where Farm Street was

Wendy. the houses that you say were near Farm St look as though they were befor Gordon St as the park was befor Lucas & Farm Street. i lived opposite Lucas's

Jean

Hi Jean, it was difficult to work out as you can see the rest of the street was demolished the photo of the 'red' house was the last in the street of the old houses. I am sure your right.

You are right about the Duffy's in Burbury Street.I should know,I married one.The mother's name was Vera as you said.My wife's name was Jacqueline and she had 3 sisters and 4 Brothers. We were divorced a couple of years ago so I don't have much to do with the family now. Also, the Wheeldon family who were mentioned. They are my relations on my mothers side and again a large family as is my own.I am the oldest of 11 offspring!! BobS.

Hi Bob

I was interested to see that whilst marrying into the Duffy family, you are also related to the Wheeldons. I remember Mrs Wheeldon, she was a friend of my moms. I always had to call her Aunty Joyce. My sister and two brothers were much older than me and I believe they knew Joyce's children well, probably went to the same school. In fact I know my brother became very good friends with her daughter again a few years ago before she sadly died. It's a small world!

Jules

Do any of you remember a family living at 12,? wills street, the family was called Heeley, they were my aunt and uncle. I have been trying to find out if the son Reg is still around, he would be in his 70s now

Hi,Jules65. I think I may have made a mistake as far as the Wheeldon's go. I have just spoken to my cousin and she reminded me that they lived in Berners street, not Burbury Street but she does know a Joyce and is going to look into it with her brother who is a family historian!! Sorry about the mistake.BobS.

Hi Wales - the building that you thought to be a school is a hostel. The barber shop was on the corner of Defford Road (where I lived) and opposite the main gateway into Burbury Park.

Thanks for this photograph, I used to have my hair cut (when I had some) as a lad...........

Re: Burbury Street Lozells

this is the last one folks wales

Hi Wales

This last photo is the only one I recognise. This is the one of Burbury Street and the corner of Wills Street. If we could just pan up the road a bit my house would be in the picture.

Funnily enough I was there yesterday. WOW have things changed. Sadly we have had bereavement and I was amazed at how kind the neighbours have been. They told me that the street is very quiet really and they see no trouble and there appeared to be no tension.

The other photographs must be of the lower portion of Burbury Street which had disappeared by the time I can remember it.

I also found some letters that my father wrote to my mother before and just after they were married whilst he was still serving abroad (Italy) during WW2. Before they moved into Burbury Street, they were living in Wheeler Street - I presume in rented rooms. I went to Holte School in Wheeler Street and never knew they used to live there.

Jules - the other photographs were taken from the other end of Burbury Street.

Photograph 1
Wales' first photograph was taken, looking down from Newtown (Bridge Street). The road junction on the left is with Farm Street and the buildings in the distance are Lucas'. If you carried on 200/300 yards Burbury Park would have been on the right.

Photograph 2
The shop on the corner of Burbury Street/Clifford Street

Photograph 3
The barber shop was on the corner of Burbury Street/Defford Road (where I lived). This was directly opposite the entrance to the park. (Keep it a secret but I had the lead off the roof when the shop was vacated). In the distance you can see the hostel for the homeless families.

Photograph 4
This could (?) be the corner of Burbury Street/Guthrie Street?

I am certain that these are the three shops that were at the corner of Wills Street and Burbury Street. I lived just a short way up the road.

Re: Burbury Street Lozells

hi mike. you have blown up pic 5. which is as you say corner of wills st. pic 4 has no street names on it. cheers wales.

Re: Burbury Street Lozells

Hi Keith

Thanks for the information on the photographs. It is fascinating to see the images, I will show them to my older siblings when I get the chance as I am sure they may remember our street before we lost the bottom half of it!

Its nice to see the one that is photograph 3. My family lived in Defford Road before they lived in Burbury Street. This was in the early 1900's.

From all the information that has been given regarding Burbury Street on this and other posts I am assuming that the bottom part of the street was built first with the houses at the top end being bigger and built a little later on.

Jules

Re: Burbury Street Lozells

jules i would think you are right about the bottom end of the street being built 1st. if you compere the top to the bottom end i would say the top end houses look as though they were built to last longer. wales. going off to see mom and dad now they may have some more info for us. wales.
