Brummie Holidays & Days out on Old Postcard .....

Clovelly is a privately owned village on a managed estate. As Dek said you have to use the car park adjoining the visitor centre where you pay admission to enter the village. You also have to come out through the visitor centre gift shop. It is certainly not a cheap day out when you go there especially if you use their catering facilities as well. On the plus side admission includes a film show about the history of Clovelly.

Cheddar gorge quite a few montain goats now on the cliffs, unbilievable how they jump up and down the sheer cliffs in places.

Wonder how many Brummies on a day out in London expected to find a Brum built second hand Midland Red bus converted to open topper doing sightseeing tours during the 1970/80's.

A bit closer to home - Does anyone remember "CUDDLES" The Killer Whale at Dudley Zoo.
I went on a School trip to the zoo (probably early 70's) while he was there. I remember being shocked at how big he was and how close we were to him. I didn't really enjoy the zoo because I spent the whole day fretting about him being in such a small pool. I also remember being upset when he died but consoling myself with the fact that he was no longer in that tiny pool. I think he used to be on the opening credits of the local news.

Watched a TV program a few days ago apparently the goats may have to be culled. There are rare trees that are only growing on parts of the gorge and nowhere else in the country, the goats keep nibbling the new buds so stunting their growth thus preventing them seeding. Dek

Get to Southampton and it's a short sea cruise to the Isle of Wight.

Sat in my local yesterday chatting with the barman when a midland visitor asked which caravan park I was on. ( Thinks Here We Go Again ) Not on a park . Oh just visiting then. NO resident. Oh how many years. Forty years. Oh you sound like a Brummie. I am not one nor the other.
Arkrite bangs head on bar as the locals who know me make unkind remarks. Visitors look as if they have missed the punch line of a joke
Its not easy being a long time ex pat...

Sorry mate you can take the brummie out of brum but you can,t take the brum out of a brummie i,m sure you can live with that. Dek

Great postcard of Buxton. Brought back some happy memories of staying at The Palace Hotel, top right corner of first middle postcard.

Yes, beautiful hotel, quite posh but not stuffy - although may be different now. We stayed on a special deal break. The food was lovely, we ate so much I don't think they made any profit from our visit!
Matlock - love it there - always full of bikers when we go.
Polly

If you like Buxton then you would probably like visiting my home city - Bath, although these days it gets very crowded with tourists in the summer months.
