Hi Geoff , I am Jacqueline Hodges - I lived with my mom and dad lodging at your Audrie's gran's house at 14/436. I remember both Audrie and you and the fantastic bonfires. I used to push Audrie's brother Derek up and down the terrace in his pram and also to the shops at the top of Golden Hillock Road.

I'm not sure if we may have a family Connection here,
My father's name was Kenneth Burgess,

His father(My Grandfather) was Albert James Burgess, he was married to my Granny Phyllis Burgess(Nee)Stubley in 1928,
& had my father Kenny in 1931 & brother Micheal(Mickey Burgess) in 1935,

My Grandparents Phyllis & Albert Burgess, Divorced in 1937,

Albert Burgess married again to a Agnes Stennett(Nee)Barber in 1938 & had a Son called Peter Burgess in 39,


We Were always told about the Green-Grouser Shop that the Burgess family had in what we thought was the Camp hill, Bordseley Green Area
But can't seem to find any info Re-the Burgess Grouser Shop in Camp Hill,
So that's why I'm wondering if your Grandfather Reginald Burgess was possibly a relative,
Do you know what the R is in your granddad's grouser shop, Reginald "R" Burgess(Robert)?

This shop that was Owned by my Great-Grandfather Frederick Burgess must have been in the 30s/40s,
Because he died in 1950, Wonder if any of his family members took Over,
We know the family lived On Muntz St, Small health, then Fred & fanny moved to Kings heath later on in life,


My Great-Grandparents names were Peter James Frederick Burgess(Known by Fred/Frederick Burgess) & his wife Fanny Burgess(Nee)Smallman
these are the Children Of Fred & Fanny Burgess i know about, But Believe they may of had more Children

they had my Grandfather
(Albert James Burgess),
Frederick John Burgess,
Leonard Arthur Burgess,
Grace Elsie Burgess,
Frank Samuel Burgess,
Robert Burgess

I don't Know of any of the names of the Children my Grandfather's Siblings had(Only my Dad, Kenneth Burgess, & Micky Burgess & Dad's half brother's (Peter Burgess) Albert Burgess's Son, & Robert Burgess, Gordon Pollock, Graham Pollock Phyllis Burgess(Nee)Stubley's Other son's from different relationship,

The Photo Of Reg Burgess you have Posted, I can definitely see a huge resemblance with my father Ken,

Have done my Burgess family tree,

Let me know if any of the names above ring a bell Les,

Hi Audrey, I am the middle son of the Tolley family who lived at number 5 Stratford terrace(5/436). Although I recognise your name, I was a small boy when you married and left. My eldest sibling was Diana, and my eldest brother Paul, both of whom have unfortunately passed. My contemporaries were Julie and Stephen Henderson , parents Margaret and Ronny. I was the little "B" who painted Your mums Lilac tree with white gloss paint!......hope you are in good health Andrew

Hi Jacky, Andrew Tolley from 5/436 here. My family had 6 kids, being being in the middle. Diana, Paul, Steven and 2 younger ones you wouldn"t know. My moms family were also in the terrace The Williams family...…...My Uncle leslie lived opposite ethel Henderson and my uncle Albert in Warwick terrace near the bottom.....does the name ring a bell?...best wishes and hoping you are well.
 
Hello everyone. Have just discovered my grandparents were living at 325 Bolton Road in 1939 and that they ran a cafe, I think it might have actually been a chippy. Their names were Horace and Irene Watkiss. Just wondered in anyone remembered the shop. Thanks so much!

I remember Mr and Mrs Hipkiss, Bernard Hipkiss drove a Morris 1000 estate car, they lived nextdoor but 1 at 22 The Causeway now Tesco carpark lovely couple, no children.

My Aunty Edie and Uncle Chris Rose lived in Warwick Terrace with my cousin's Norman, Janet and Yvonne.

The "R" in my grandfather's name was Roland it was after his mother's maiden name which was Rowlands. I am doing the Burgess family tree but so far have found no connection. Perhaps when I get back far enough I will find one!

Hi, Nonna….your aunt and uncle the ROSES lived next door to us....my mom Rose Tolley(no 5) was a great friend/neighbour before we moved. Didn"t your uncle keep pigeons? I am sure I used to trap them on our shed roof using string, a stick and cardboard box....then release them or give them back to him depending on if they were ringed....best wishes Andy T

I do remember pigeons, they also had Grandad Rose living with them and a very old tortoise

Can"t say I remember his tortoise, but we kept one ourselves in those days, until it didn"t wake up after a winter hibernation...… Wish you all well, they were lovely folk . My cousin who also lived in the terrace on the opposite side to us is still alive although 88yrs...I will pass the info on....Andrew

Norman has passed away now but Janet and Yvonne still in good health except Yvonne has very bad arthritis.

My cousin is Pat Williams, who married BOB PAGE....Janet and Yvonne may remember her. Unfortunately my older siblings of their age have passed(Dianna and Paul Tolley)
 
Probably from BHF as I am sure I have seen that photo here.
The former LMS locomotive is what I remembered.

The Chemist on Goldenhillock Road was called ‘Martins’; my mother saved tokens weekly, to be redeemed at Christmas for cosmetic treats. There was a toy shop too, nearer to the bridge. I lived at 5/433 Bolton Road, (Olton Place) and went to Oakley Road School for a few years before moving to the Holy Family School, Coventry Road. My father and I were the last ones left in the terrace. We left in 1963. I remember the porn shop, newsagents next to it, facing the post office. There was a wool shop and a sweet shop on the nearby crossroad corners of Waverley/Goldenhillock and Bolton Road. Also a double fronted ladies dress shop was a bit further up towards Fishers Garage.

Hi Wendy, I have just joined. I remember my sister Wendy and I used to come to your shop to buy the orange pop with the smilies on when we were 4/5 years old. Would you remember my mom, Sheila, and our stepdad Alf? We lived the top end of Bolton Rd in the back to back houses with no front gardens. I had 3 older sisters, Angela, Annette and Wendy. Does anyone remember my uncles, Victor, Clifford and Roger Southall? Does anyone remember the man who was friends with them? He might have had connections with the scrapyard and might have delivered coal. My sister and I used to play on the bomb peck across the road. My mom also knew the Kellys.
