Boarding houses near Hay Mills/Small Heath

Hi all, I'm trying to find out a bit about my grandad's history. He was from Dublin but worked in the Latch and Batchelor wire rope factory in 1953. It's a long shot but wondering if anyone can remember boarding houses in the area popular with Irish immigrants? I'm told it was not far from St Andrews.

Hi and welcome to Birmingham history forum. I know that Moseley (not too far awasy) was quite popular with Irish immigrants. There were a lot of the larger Victorian houses converted to boarding houses and bedsits.

Thank Morturn. It was probably Victorian, my grandad's cousin remembers snow falling on their beds from a skylight! He said it was "down the road from the football stadium" so I'm guessing on/off the Coventry Road...
