Bladon's blowlamps Birmingham

I am sure I heard a story that Barry Bucknell burn down one of the houses he was renovating with a blowlamp.

Learning to light one was a rite of passage to an apprentice builder

I started in the decorating trade in 1954 and they were in constant use then and the chaps I worked with then would carry them up ladders to burn off soffits etc and yet I cannot recall there being any accidents with fires believe it or not. In the late 50s Calor gas introduced their version with the gun and rubber tube which was a Godsend no more tins of Paraffin to keep topping the blowlamp up.

A relative broke a window some years ago whilst burning paint from a frame, he thought he had turned it off but it was only turned down low.
