Black Country Museum

Ernie facillaties for the disabled are first class. ramps are provided at all venues that need them. and plenty of seating dotted around. but to be honest i didnt see any mobility scooters, now i dont know if that was due to pathways not being suitable or just none on the day. Im sure if you give them a ring they will let you know.

Many Thanks Robert, Will give them a call as you say.

TOAST, Nigel Slater's TV memoir scenes were filmed at the Black Country Museum.

The school, the road up from the pub over the bridge, the sweet shop and canal-side figure in various parts. Here is a link to the BBC and a few clips ........ https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00wylpf#clips

Unfortunately no glimpses of the BCM, though.

The museum is a real gem. As a retired teacher, I look forward to visiting again - but without 180 children in tow!:D

I would like to make the point, ignoring any health issues, that all really good chips (and fish) are cooked in dripping or perhaps lard.
Mike
Too right, mate!
As an ex teacher, some vegetarians or beef refuseniks among the pupils used to offer me their fish and chips at the BCLM. Some bounder had told them they were cooked in dripping! ;)
Whatever next?:D

As a lad, I used to go swimming in the old Rolfe Street Baths, Smethwick - now relocated to the BCLM.

I remember the changing cubicles used to have doors like western saloon bars, with no bottom bit to them, so when you were in the pool you could see the punters dropping their....... :P
I leave that to your imagination!
Ahhh..happy days! :D

Robert Thank you so much for your post, I am sure I shall be contacting them this year when the weather improves. Its been so long since I last went there I am sure there must be a lot more to see now.

Dave thanks for posting that it was so funny well done all concerned.....great entertainment!

thanks dave that was really funny...i really think that all the staff at the BCM put such a lot of effort into making it the success that it is...hope to go along again myself soon if only for the fish and chips..:)

Lyn we could do a meet there. I suggest we meet at the museum as we live in different areas. I know you tried before but it doesn't really matter if not many turn up as it's probably best to pay on the door.

hi wend..would love to do that providing those without transport dont mind getting the train or bus from the city centre....will see what we can do then after the jewellers arms meet:):) i can taste them fish and chips now..:D

I think most of the people on display are volunteers, who come in when they can. I spoke to several of them last time i was there, and they are very into what they do, though I got the impression that some thought they were not enough appreciated by "the management",

blackcountry museum.JPGLyn, i have been just once, about 20 years ago with my Wife and it poured with rain all day, it inspired me to paint attached painting. No doubt a lot more has been added since then and I'll try and go again in near future. Eric

you would enjoy another visit eric..ive seen that painting before...its wonderful...:)

Go down the mine for 35 minutes. Mind your head! You'll be given a hard hat / helmet and torch to take down (one torch between 4 people).

Bit slippy down there. Head room at some points only 5 ft. I'm over 6 ft and had to bend down.
