Birmingham's Oldest Buildings.

Gazzo

300 Years of Brum DNA
Do we have a record of Brums oldest buildings ? How many are listed or protected. Searched the web and resources seem hard to find. Would be nice if we could do some pics aswell. :)

Northfield Church? but only in Brum since 1911 ?

"A rare Birmingham survival is reset into the new north wall of 1900. This is a round-arched Norman doorway of c1170 bearing a zig-zag pattern typical of its date. Also surviving from the 12th-century are two plain windows with carved animal heads set in the north and south faces of the tower. "

Handsworth Old Town Hall, College Road, Handsworth Wood. Legend has it that Oliver Cromwell once stayed overnight here before the assault on Aston Hall. I very much doubt the story as he wasn't personally involved in that action but the building was there at the time and had been from 13th century.

Great buildings and great photos Ell and Oisin. Birmingham certainly has a rich history, thankfully still visible through these wonderful buildings. Viv.

I believe some vandals took the lead from the roof of St Edburgha's in Yardley recently.

No problem Viv.

Most of the areas were small villages when they were built. Old Yardley and Old Northfield still feel like villages (when you go there).

The church in Sheldon, St Giles is quite an old building as well..

Love those gables on the lodges Ell. I think this influenced the style of later buildings around north Birmingham such as the original Hare and Hounds pub and Warren Farm in Kingstanding. Your photos are much appreciated. Viv.
