Birmingham street lamp near Withernsea!

Over 10 years ago now I visited a site near Withernsea on the East Yorkshire coast. It’s an area suffering from rapid coastal erosion. I was visiting a park where the clubhouse was in danger due to the erosion and it had to be emptied and decommissioned. Lots of items were being sold off including the lampposts on the approach road. I bought 2 of these. One was of particular interest because it was larger than the others. With help I got it back home, stripped many layers of paint off it and uncovered a coat of arms. I was amazed to find out it was a Birmingham coat of arms!
I wanted the lamppost to go into the car park of my business premises so spent time getting it in good nick. I contacted an old chap in Hull who does special paint jobs on motorcycles. He agreed to paint the cast iron coat of arms n the correct colors to improve the appearance. The lamppost has stood proudly in the car park for 10 years now but I’d love to know more about it. I’m not sure how to send photos as it says “the uploaded files are too large”. Can you help?

If you are using microsoft then

Right click on the photo and "open with paint"
Then click on the marked icon

This will allow you to reduce the size of the image. I usually use 30%.
Thenn use "save as " so you still have the original.

Hope these pics help. Was this a normal street lamp in Birmingham? View attachment 215695

What you have there is a marriage of an electric lighting column, possibly a Group-B streetlight from the late 50’s - 60’s that been retrofitted with a Gaslamp top.

The electrical cover at the base would have had the city coat of arms cast onto the surface.

Here is a thread all about Birmingham lighting https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/for...sts-original-colour-please.59041/#post-852691
