Difficult to say. Trolley buses were taken out of service in 1951, so no later than that. It could be as early as the early 1930s. Also, the more distant bus may have a wartime grey camouflage roof, but the picture is faded so I am not certain of that. If it is in wartime livery, then we are looking at photo taken in the 1940s, but that's a big if.Does anyone have any idea what year this was taken by the Trolley Bus in the background?View attachment 150084

The boy's coat might be another clue might help someone identify the age of the photo. But I have no useful knowledge on that.
That's me and my sister, Joan, I was born In 1933 she in 1936. So the photo may be taken in 1938? taken In Yardley before we moved to Moat LaneDo we know where the photograph was taken?
Absolutely Mike and without history there would be know tomorrow!I think few at the Thinktank have any interest in heritage. They are interested in Lego , or showing how medicines or robots work, or what "educationalists" (most of which know nothing about history or heritage ) think is important
Are you sure that it is a trolleybus? It looks like a COG5.Looks pre war I've brought up the levels in the photo but the buses against the bright sky I think were never very good 80 years ago let alone now.View attachment 150085

Thank you for clearing that up for me. It should be used as part of a Quiz......The Bus Station that never was! Also the city council realised that if they used it as a bus station they would lose it to the WMPTE without compensation so they kept it as part of Paradise Circus.
No def, not Moat lane. This was before we moved to Moat LaneCould this be Moat lane? A bus route passes where you were.

Yes I did that also of course we could have been visiting someone thanks anywayHobmoor Croft is a Cul de Sac, so you wouldn't get buses going up there!
Where is the picture please ?New Street
This great view is one of several taken one November morning in 1962 (at ten to nine - see the clock nearly halfway up the left hand side!) to show the volume of traffic in the city. I have another in a book (taken at 9:08 by the same clock!) showing more of the distance, stationary buses and cars right back to Victoria Square.
I think they were taken because the City Council was in the early stages of considering the closure of city centre roads to traffic, as has now happened.
There are a lot of archived pictures like this, showing heavy (rush hour) traffic before a road scheme came into operation, and corresponding ones showing little or no traffic (taken at an off-peak time, or even Sunday!) afterwards.
Presumably the pictures proved the schemes worked!
I know Barry - has anything happened to him?Hi,just wondered if any one ever met or remember my relative Barry Shelton ? He was a huge bus and transport history follower and I am looking for any photographs of him on the buses?
